So I can just plug this into my MPU 401 ISA cards wavetable and get full mt32 sound via Munt?

You will still need to find a way to acquire the ROMs . The only legal way (AFAIK) is likely to dump them from an MT-32 or compatible that you already own. DISCLAIMER: I am not a lawyer and I could well be wrong .

It would make so much sense if Roland licensed the ROMs to end users or to another company that could do so. Alternatively, if Roland licensed Munt from the developpers and bundled it with ROMs, it could be nice too.

Sweet! I want one already.

Would be even better if it had a way to hook up an LCD that could be set on the outside of the computer to display the messages like a real MT-32

I would do a thumbs up for this.

As much as I love the Dreamblaster X2, having THIS would really be a game changer. Yes, a real MT32 is nice, but they are rare and quite expensive (why do I have two???). This here will be rather affordable, and could even emulate different synths. It's perfect!

Yeah but please add a USB Header to the design, it will help greatly with debugging issues if something goes wrong.
specially if using non WIFI Version.. so you can`t change soundbanks etc on the fly.. without having a way to access is, also I2C Bus would nice to connect a display and buttons.

That banana? That's mini. One time my father bought bananas length of a feet long and he said it is actually fully grown.

This has the potential to be a massively powerful card. The RPi CM4 is quite powerful for an embedded device and can even be equipped with up to 8GB of RAM on board. Even outside of MT-32, it should be able to handle running as a soundfont synth pretty well.

What RPi CM4 inspires me:
- MT32 synth emulator (Munt)
- Soundfont synth (Fluidsynth: GM/GS Fuid R3 soundfont synth or others)
- Soft synth (Yoshimi: software audio synthesizer with GM soundbank)
And with some additions to the PCB design:
- with 2xUART In and 4x UART Out pins header: MIDI router and processor (mididings), Up to four Waveblaster DB (larger polyphony, mix instruments and Drums set, crossfades ...)
- with standard 1: 1 RJ45 MagJack for Gigabit Ethernet: network communications to all Waveblaster DB and synths (RTP-midi) and RPi CM4 OS resources.

I'm not aware of soft synths which do XG aside from S-YXG50 from Yamaha. That might be viable using an x86 Chroot and Wine depending on the emulation overhead required, but it does involve jumping through some hoops.

Mounted on CHiLL II, a high power CHiLL version for experimental purposes... (more exactly this experiment!)

There are also these:
S-YXG70
S-YXG100
S-YXG2006LE (this is a VST... I have a copy but have never used it. Not sure what it is based on)
