I'm stuck and the best way to explain this is with pictures. So i hit F6 as soon as Win2k starts just like in XP and this is where i'm at. I have downloaded drivers all over the place and tried the kitchen sink. I have read threads here and all over the net for the last 4 days. I am truly at a loss on this one.

This is a bastardized board and i also know that the drivers say VT8237A in the picture. So i'm now wondering in all the drivers i have downloaded did one actually say VT8237 only? err

I forgot that you need to upload the pictures in reverse.

Anyway after looking at these photos again it does say VT8237 in the driver strings. So i have no idea what the issue is. I had read somewhere that the hard drives needed to be slowed down to SATA 1 with the jumpers. I didn't need to do that tho as i have those. So i yanked the SATA 2 and SATA 3 drives i was messing with and installed a SATA 1 drive.

Are you using the drivers that would have come from ABit or VIA? There might be a missing Hardware Vendor ID in the drivers' inf file.

Let me explain a little bit more. I have a bastardized board direct from ABIT. The mobo is actually a KV8-MAX3 so the Northbridge is a "K8T800". However my mobo does not have the sata controller at the bottom.

If you look at the KV8 PRO it has the "K8T800 PRO" Northbridge.

The boards have different NB's. Does that make a difference? IDK but i have tried all the MAX drivers too. I have used the drivers from Vogons Drivers, Phils Computer & ABIT. I have tried drivers from CNET and random places around the net.

You can try the V-RAID 4.30c drivers and see how they work out for you.

https://www.techspot.com/drivers/downloadnow/ … ffe23c1a&file=1

Ignore the fact that it says Gigabyte. Extract the .exe with 7-Zip, and dump the drivers on a diskette. Memory serves that the southbridge variants are labelled as V-RAID, unlike standalone controllers.

Would my hard drive effect this install procedure on Win2K? It's 250 GB Maxtor SATA1 and it's all in one partition.

What is the controller mode to set to right now? Some southbridges will disable IDE ports, once the S-ATA ports have been assigned as Primary/Secondary ports. Then it will be seen as a standard IDE device.

I have had them set 7 ways to sunday. Here are the two settings below.

When i have both RAID setting toggled on. I can get into the secondary VIA RAID BIOS. When I have just the SATA RAID rom on same deal the VIA RAID shows at post and can be accessed by hitting the TAB button.

now

If the SATA RAID rom is off and the ONCHIP SATA RAID is toggled on the VIA RAID BIOS goes away. I truly believe this is the correct setup. So the SATA drive can be emulated as a IDE drive. If you know what i mean.

Instead of running 2000 Pro, have you attempted to try Windows XP with the VIA S-ATA drivers? If XP halts at the same point, then we still have a driver to resolve. If not, then 2000 is to blame. Are you installing with Sp4 media, or a raw untouched ISO with no Service Packs?

Another question; Has the 3.5" floppy drive worked with other computers? A bad drive can also cause these types of frustrations.

It's Win2k Pro and I doubt it has any of the 4 service packs. I think i have owned that disk since day one. I didn't try XP Pro this round but I can go back and try the last drivers i posted. I will need to check if any of my XP disc have any service packs or not. I will see what i can do with the service pacts.

Yep the floppy drive is a brand new Sony USB. It works flawless across all my other PC's. Thank you so much for your time. This has been a wild one!

Cha-ching, there is your issue right there. XP and 2000 Pro can't copy files from USB devices while you're in text mode setup. The floppy drive either needs to be a floppy emulator eg: Gotek, or a physical 3.5" floppy drive that is plugged directly into the floppy connector. If someone barks up that it is supported, then that comes down to motherboard. Personally, I have never had it work with any motherboard that I paired with 2000 Pro or XP.

If this is not possible for you, I would recommend slip-streaming the RAID drivers into the 2000 Pro install CD. If you don't have SP4 media, I would highly recommend slip-streaming that in as well. Some, but not all drivers may have Service Pack requirements.

I have regular ol floppy drives here. So i will plug one in a give it a shot. It does have the setting in the BIOS tho and keys right up. At this point it wont kill me to grab a regular floppy. I have them all over the darn place.

I found this on slipstreaming 2k but im not sure if i can go right to SP4 or not so any ideas on that Dmetsys?

You can go straight to SP4 without any problems. DO NOT slip-stream the unsupported 5.1a Service Pack. That one was compiled by third-parties, and should be installed manually after SP4. If you are looking for media that already has SP4 built in, you can acquire it at REMOVED
