Hello,
since DOSFreak closed the original Thread and won't open it again:
FMV problems with Revell Backroad Racers CD
I had to create the same topic regarding Revell Backroad Racers (1993 PC-DOS) again.
After 4 hours of intense testing yesterday I found the solution how to get this nice racing game 100% to work.
I was so happy about that fact I can play this game 100% working, as it was intended,(after 26 years) that I instantly made a "lets play" Youtube video (the first on whole Youtube regarding Revell Backroad Racers) where I explain how to get it up and running in my german language. Since I show you exactly the necessary configuration in the video, my language should'nt be a problem. I will try to make another video (in my broken) english if someone wants. I also plan to make a video running backroad racers in Windows 98 with USB Joystick.

So here is my video about Backroad Racers.
I hope it will help, so many VOGONS can enjoy this nice old multimedia CD-Rom Racing game too. 😀
Thank you for watching, please be kind and don't dislike pls sorry for shaking in video, only have my mobile phone and no better equipment (I don't have many views or likes either)

and config.sys tomorrow

My PC has Windows 98SE and the necessary DOS Files
I use a Pentium 166MMX with a Creative SB32 PnP

For Revell Backroad Racers only, I use EMM386.exe and Himem.sys from MS-DOS 6.22
When I use these files from Windows the Video got stuck after 1 sec. playing.
Error message when playing with p8.exe and EMM386 from windows: EMM386.exe : DMA-Modus wird nicht unterstützt. Neustart mit der Eingabetaste.
With the files from DOS I have no problems!
Boot directly into dos with this configuration:

Autoexec.bat:
mode con codepage prepare=((850) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=850
keyb gr,,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\keyboard.sys
SET CTCM=C:\CTCMM
C:\CTCMM\CTCU /S
SET SOUND=C:\AWE32
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E MODE:0
LH C:\AWE32\DIAGNOSE /S
LH C:\AWE32\AWEUTIL
rem C:\AWE32\AWEUTIL /S
rem LH C:\AWE32\MIXERSET /P /Q
LH C:\DRIVERS\CTMOUSE.EXE /R2

Config.sys
device=c:\dos\himem.sys
device=c:\dos\emm386.exe RAM
dos=high,umb
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CTCMM\CTCM.EXE
DEVICEHIGH=C:\Test\SNDBK12.SYS 1 5 220 --> put this from cd on your harddisk (this is needed to have audio with p8.exe (IBM PhotoMotion Player Program Version 2.0))
LASTDRIVE=Z

This is my start.bat to mount the CD image and to slowdown the computer to a very good playable speed:
@ECHO OFF
c:\slowdown\slodn310\slowdown /MHz286:40
PAUSE
cd \
cd drivers\shsucd
SHSUCDHD /F:C:\Games\Backroad\Image.ISO
SHSUCDX /D:SHSU-CDH
d:\
dir
PAUSE
c:
cd c:\
cd spiele
cd backroad
c:\spiele\Backroad\go

With these settings the game runs perfect on my PC.
Have fun with Revell Backroad Racers!
