It isn't a config file problem. It's most likely a crappy installer problem. We've had problems with Sierra installers before. I do not have this compilation so it's hard to troubleshoot the problem.

You may have better luck if you post the batch file that you are trying to use.

What we'll probably ending up doing is posting the filenames of a known working copy of the games and then you'll have to root through your CD and replicate the structure, then we'll probably post a working config file for the game (not a dosbo config but the game config).

You have a copy of the files on the CD but not what is in the SQ1VGA folder. Show me what is in that folder.

I suspect the problem is the weird way in which the CD installs the games. It will normally create a new bat file which executes somthing lice SCIDUV followed by some instructions. Is there a SCIDUV in that folder? If so, there might be a solution but I haven't figured it out yet. I have the CD Collection for PQ which is similar in nature but the original SQs, so I can only guess based on the PQ series, but they are defintely installed differently.

Also, there are two files called SCIDHUV.EXE. One is in the "Arcades" folder, and one is in the SQ1VGA folder. There is also an SCIDLL.DLL file in the SQ4 folder.

Yes, what is the problem you are trying to solve here? Installing SQ1 or SQ4?

If SQ4, why are you posting information about the SQ1EGA folder?

If SQ4, then forget about your INSTALL.BAT file, and go directly to the SQ4 directory on the CD, and use the install /f command:

1D:\>cd sq4
2D:\SQ4>install /f

The problem is installing SQ1VGA, SQ2, SQ3, SQ4, SQ5, Imagination Network, and Nick's Picks, all of which are on the same disc (along with SQ1EGA, which I can and have installed fine).

I wouldn't say it was spelled out pretty clearly. So you are trying to solve 7 problems at once? Problem no. 1 being installing SQ1VGA. Problem no. 2 being installing SQ2, etc, etc.?

If usually pays off to concentrate on one problem at a time. So - what is the problem you are trying to solve here?

It is one problem: there is an install file (see above, INSTALL.txt) that, when I run it, brings up a menu. None of the items on the menu work, but when I hit "E," it says "eOut of environment space, installing SQ1EGA," which it then allows me to do. I don't want to do that. I want to be able to install each game, and I don't really care how, but niether that method, nor running the individual install programs in the separate folders works.

Try to use c:\sierra\sqX and see if that "can't create config file" still
occurs, if it does watch the dosbox status window if some file
information is displayed.

Wow. I can't believe that actually worked. After all that, all I had to do was update DOSBox. Thanks.

One more stupid question before I stop bothering you all: isn't there a way to make DOSBox full screen/toggle between full screen and normal size from within the program, while it's running a game?

Fullscreen is alt-enter for windows, maybe something similar for macs.
Start up the key mapper and look for that Fullscreen button.

On the fullscreen thing, I always make a BAT file that contains the instructions. If you read the readme file you can get the basic info, but you need to add "-fullscreen" to the command line. That way you don't have to change all the time. Here is an example of the BAT files I made.

dosbox.exe C:\SIERRA\SQ1.COM -fullscreen -exit

Save that as a TXT file and then change "TXT" to "BAT" to make it executable by DOSBOX.
