I meant name of this program called "plop".

Cheers,

I tried plop... It looks like it does what it should... But now that I can take the direct way it doesn't matter. Thx.

Good morning... So I managed to build and run everything as I planned it. This is so great... I really like it. BTW due to an idea of phil I exchanged the 9800xt for a FireGL X3.

But there is something I would like to improve (if possible):
With easy2boot i managed to install XP from a USB Stick. I used a USB2 as well as a USB3 stick. From both the copying process of the ISO file to the memory is extremely slow. The Mainboard supports USB2 - so i don't understand why this takes so long. Is it because of Keyboard/Mouse support?

Another thing is, that I wiped out with a screwdriver yesterday. One of the capacitors near the memory has now a little scratch. Imo it looks like only the surface is a little scratched - is it necessary to exchange it? I watched it carefully and will go on watching... For now it doesn't behave noticeable.

Not really needed now but you could have got a external USB optical drive and installed that way.

re the capacitor, your only real option is to check with a a multimeter. If you don't have one then yeh just keep an eye on it, plenty of people run systems just fine even with swollen caps (me included) which defiantly aren't happy. Its not ideal but then life isn't and I don't have all that much spare time

Multimeter... Ok... This is getting professional... 😬
I have to test how much ??? what?

Optical USB drive sounds like a veritable option... Will give it a try.

I know right! multimeter's are cheap and plenty of info on the internet about how to determine what a cap's value should be and how to test so no excuses really. yet here I am still coming up with why I'm not doing anything about mine 😜

Got a usb dvd ram today and tested immediately. It looks like the best way to run OS installations on this system. Fast as it should be.

I was looking around and wondered if it would be an improvement to exchange the 9800xt for a geforce 6800 gt?

Until now I must admit, that I am not that happy with this socket A project - never encountered so many problems before... It looks like i have just a big box of compatibility issues... Very frustrating... 😒

Sorry to hear that... Hmm, care to make a list, or elaborate?

i386 16 ⇒ i486 DX4 100 ⇒ Pentium MMX 200 ⇒ Athlon Pluto 700 ⇒ AthlonXP 1700+ ⇒ Opteron 165 ⇒ Dual Opteron 856

I'm sorry to hear your having issues with your socket A build. It's a really fun platform to work and play with. What are some of the issues your facing?

It's a pain to get these GPUs working all around... I was wondering if this is due to Mainboard Chipset...
I have delays in booting - with ATI cards the screen turns off for a short while... Then comes back... This happens when switching between the resolution of the XP Bootlogo and my Desktop resolution... With the Nvidia card this doesn't happen... Games also don't work as reliable as I wrote earlier... After a while I get this or that working... But then others don't...
Quake (enormous graphic errors and resolution restrictions with ATI drivers and Nvidia drivers above 45.23), Unreal Tournament (glitches with Nvidia drivers under 5x.x) and Rollcage Stage 2 (stucking fps with all GPUs and all drivers in D3D) are my three really important ones - for Windows the rest is not that important to me... If they don't run ALL with max resolution and without errors or glitches I don't see the point of such a platform for me...
But! Although this sounds like giving up on it - I am still willing to test other configurations. I just wanted to write down my anger about not getting it to work... Thx for replying.

--------

Edit: maybe I am missing some things out... Or better: I am sure I do... 😖
But I've ordered a geforce 6800 gt... Hope to get some better results with it... Other thing I was thinking about is to exchange the nforce2 board for another with kt600 chipset...

Good hint... I overread this obviously.

Edit:
First thing that worked without any errors... Thx😬

Ah well... I installed a 6800Gt... It is a nice card... I got it original boxed with driver CD - it installed driver version 6.72
Every quake program runs as it should...
I have persisting problems with stuck fps in rollcage stage 2 D3D and not that fluently running images in UT.. there must be some problems with support of dx7 titles with dx9... ?!
Glide versions are running..

.................
Edit:
Think I am okay with everything now... First of all...
I am just at the beginning of experiencing what this machine can do... For all my 3 windows favorites they have ways to run fluently (D3D runs perfectly on my PIII - that's ok) - with the Athlon XP Glide is fine...
And after getting things a little more easier I will test a bunch of games...
Btw: I just looked up temperatures (idle):
39 °C CPU
47 °C GPU
Would you say that's okay? Sounds good to me...

Hello again... A new attempt - building in a Radeon HD 3850 - came to my mind but I wouldn't do it if CPU bottlenecks it to much... on pc-builds.com it is said that it works good together at 1080p.. can someone confirm that?

😒🙈 😂 I don't know what's up - most things work. But it is not that enthusiasm like it was with my other platforms (especially the PIII). Maybe 462 is not the right for me.

At the moment I switched over to an asrock 775i65g and paired it with Radeon HD 3850 and a P4 with 3,4Ghz... First impression is: things run a lot better...

Socket A and I ... Looks like we won't come together for long...
