Interesting Morrowind was longer than Oblivion.

Morrowind had less fast travel, which is why it took longer.

Healing well since my Christmas day tumble down the stairs. Still have pretty severe pain in the left kidney area in certain positions, so I avoid those positions, and every day it's getting better. Yesterday (5 days after fall) was my most significant improvement, and today is an improvement over yesterday, so I've turned the corner.

Tumbling down the stairs? That hurts! Get well soon.

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

Got to disc 2 of FF7 and decided to take a break. The Battle Squares thing where you're supposed to win Cloud's Omnislash really turned me off from the game.

Basically, it comes down to how (un)lucky you are on the random slot roll. Get 2-3 really bad rolls and you're out, even if your character is over leveled and decked out in the best gear available. Also, every attempt costs 10 GP which you have to grind for by playing those ridiculous mini-games. As a kid, I had the patience for that, but now, I got better things to do with my time.

Tomb Raider 2 is next. Haven't played that game in ages so I'm wondering how it will stand the test of time.

That looks seriously impressive.

Square Enix, or whoever holds the TR license right now, should hire that guy and let him work on an official remake.

Still hesitating my way through Outward here - I read in a review once that this game doesn't respect the player's time and that's true, it's a time sink and makes no apologies for that. I can spend a play session doing nothing more than messing around with my inventory and preparing a set of potions for my next outing into the wilds - that's its thing. All well and good and I do enjoy it but I'm back to work tomorrow much to my disgust, so the bell tolls for thee Outward. I'll see you again next Christmas holidays 😢

I've been playing Jurassic World Evolution since I got it free from epic and it's really fun and much to my surprise it runs fantastic on my C2D E8600 based main system. I've got 8 gigs of RAM and a GTX 470 and the game preset it's self to medium settings and it looks and runs great super smooth and no frame drops or stutters.

I'm two steps down that mile-long garden path of "catching up on All Nintendo JRPGs" (= most JRPGs), as I continue working through Secret of Mana.

Having done my research, I know I've still got Trials of Mana, Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past, possibly Mario RPG, and the Final Fantasy's, as a bare minimum to even reach SNES Par. Or, several hours per day for the next six months.

Leaving this-and-many-other-genres until my 40's to start was possibly a bit of an oversight. Unlike when you're young, now you start to think about the balance between the million games you have to get through, and how many decades of life you have left. 😁

I might have to skip a few games. Guess we all have to.

Chrono Trigger is mandatory, skip the rest. :p

Seconded.

Chrono Trigger is one of those selected few games that I can wholeheartedly recommend to everyone. Also, it's not that long (25-30 hours).

Nice, cheers guys I'll be sure to keep CT on the absolute essentials list.

What about Zelda Link to the Past? Some topsites like to say it's the best SNES game. But I've never played a Zelda game and not sure if I should bother getting into that whole neverending-universe.

Zelda games play a bit differently from the traditional RPGs of the day. There's no leveling per se, but you can improve your health and gradually find new equipment which allows you to explore new areas. Also, the fighting is done in real-time while most contemporary RPGs had turn-based combat.

That said, Zelda is good game in its own right. I simply wouldn't rate it as high as Chrono Trigger. That's just my personal preference though.

Took advantage of steam/origin sales and got Star Wars Battlefront II, Shadow of Tomb Raider, Dirt 4 and Strange Brigade.
All look sublime with the Geforce 3070. Will I finish any of them? Nope.

I've been playing (and sometimes streaming live) System Shock using the Shockolate source port I recently heard about.

So far it's great, but using classic controls is a hassle because there's strangely no button to re-centre the view...

Planning to find some extra time to play Falcon because someone mentioned it on this forum earlier and I remember that game, if I am not mistaken my dad brought this game in a small floppy disk decades ago

After finishing Half-Life 2: Update, I started Episode 1. I'm about 4.5 hours in and am in the middle of Chapter 4: Urban Flight. There's 5 chapters in Episode 1, so I should finish in the next day or two. Then on to Episode 2.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

So I wrapped up Syndicate (1993). I was underwhelmed. I beat the Atlantic Accelerator mission with 10 missions left, and the final mission I actually did was an... ugh... escort mission in South America.

I'm fighting the urge to try all the games at once, and actually finish one. So I'm returning to the playthrough I started of Unreal. I'd play Quake 2 instead... except I'm super engrossed in playing Quake 2 RTX on my modern rig.

I gotta say though, Quake 2 has far more playable level design over Unreal. Just tries too hard to be pretty or believably designed. The AI sure is better in Unreal though... but I'm not sure I really enjoy it after an 8 hour work day, putting the toddler down for the night, my evening household chores, putting the wife down for the night, and then finally getting some gaming time in. I can only muster maybe 30 minutes for that sort of challenge before I just feel burnt out. How age changes things.

Not sure what I'm in the mood for after Unreal. With luck I'll have my 2004 Retro Rig built, so maybe Doom 3 or Painkiller. Or maybe something like Port Royale or Arx Fatalis. I was also lucky enough to score a huge box of PC games off craigslist all from around the 2004 era. Had several copies of Doom 3 for some reason, and probably 10 different Tom Clancy games. Also had a boxed copy of World of Goo which I didn't even know was a thing. And then another 40 or so titles, some of which I had, some of which were better version of stuff I had, some I had "borrowed" from friends as a teenager, and many I had never played before. So much to explore!

I've been playing through Fallout 1/2 as I said I would, and I ended up laughing my ass off earlier as a result.

I mean, I'm only using a laptop's 1650/Desktop 1070 interchangeably to run it.
