Been looking at various LCD's to replace my 19" Acer model which is ok for windows games but terrible for dos.
This Samsung Syncmaster 932bw specs at 1440 x 900 75hz. TFT, would this possibly work better for DOS games?
Hard to say from looking at the manual.
3 points to consider :
- Can it display square pixel modes like 640x480 in 4:3 aspect ratio ?
- Can it display non square pixel modes like 320x200 in 4:3 aspect ratio ?
- What does do monitor actual do with >60Hz input (like 70Hz)? Does it actually display it as such or does it skip frames to bring it down to 70Hz .
If you already have the monitor, try it and let us know . Otherwise, if I were you, I would not chance it.
My suggestion is that you read or at least skim through this Widescreen monitors and 4:3 aspect ratio compatibility thread
I know it is 15 pages long, but it would give you some perspective on what to look for, IMHO . To make it shorter, skip to posts from 2019 onward .
TLDR: If cost is not an issue, an OSSC combined with a monitor that can handle 70Hz in and out (modern freesync capable ones should work fine) and has an explicit 4:3 mode is the best current LCD based solution for DOS games, IMHO .
