Hey everyone, i hope you can help me out here, i tried everything i could but to no avail. Here's what's wrong:

I got SQ6 up and running in DOSBox, the audio works perfectly fine, the midi works perfectly fine. However. I do not hear any voices from the interrogator or Roger in the intro, THEN, when Roger gets teleported onto the planet, that's the only time i actually hear his voice when he says "Okay i'm ready. Energize!".

After that, i don't hear his voice or the narrator's. Point is, the text also doesn't seem to work properly. It's there for just a second and then it skips. Whenever Roger or the narrator says something, i don't hear it and the text just skips. There's nothing wrong with the sound, no stuttering or static, the game itself works perfectly fine too. It's just that it seems to skip dialogue, except the part where he tells to 'Energize'. That's the only time i hear him talk, the rest works just fine.

Could someone please, please, pretty please help me out? =] I already tried VDMSound, no luck there either.

I'm using DOSBox 0.65 btw.

Edit: O---kay, i've gotten 5 views but no replies. Am i doing something wrong? I don't need to list all my specs for this do i?!

The posting is fine, maybe somebody who has sq6 can verify the problem
or has some way of getting around it.
You might ty a different core (core=dynamic in dosbox.conf for example)
and play with the cycles, to see if it helps.

Okay, i just tried it (i already fiddled around with the cycles and frameskips) but still no voices. I also think it's so frikkin' weird because i only hear Roger's voice when he says "Okay i'm ready. Energize". Before and after that it seems as if the dialogue kinda skips.

Did you configure the soundblaster correctly? Should be a220 i7 d1,
also try different soundblaster types in the sq6 configuration.
And always try with low cycle count (like 1000-2000) and some
higher one (cycles=auto).

Yup, all the settings are correct. Everything is in order. I hear the MIDI music, i hear the sound effects, which means the sound is working okay. It's just that the dialogue seems to skip. The only time i hear Roger's voice is at the energize part, the rest just skips. The text shows for a second, the background music's volume lowers (so you can hear the voices of course) but then the text just skips and i hear no voices.

It's so weird that i do hear a voice at the 'energize' part, but nothing before or after that.

are you using a original copy of SQ6, or a downloadet (cd-rip) version?
i ask that because speech/movie files where sometimes removed or replaced to reduce the filesize of such games.
maybe thats your problem...

Try using SBPro instead of SB16 in the DOSBox conf. I noticed on another Sierra SCI32 game (Phantasmagoria) that DMA will unmask in the middle of playing audio sometimes, but this doesn't happen with SBPro.

Yes, it’s my fault.
