I have a Yamaha AW4416 24-bit multi-track recorder (I seem to be addicted to those, 🤣) on the way, which would be a great thing except... http://www.home-machine-shop.com/AW4416_RTC_R … tc_ds12887.html

Yes, I have managed to find and order something other than a PC motherboard that uses a Dallas DS12887 RTC/battery combo and, as a bonus, it is often soldered rather than socketed, or so I hear .

We'll see if I get lucky (socketed) or if I will need to have a socket soldered in (I am just not confident enough yet to try my hand at soldering on something so expensive, but I have a great place a 20 minute walk from where I live that would probably make short work of it ). Alternatively, I could try to mod the DS12887, but even that seems a bit risky to do without desoldering it first .

Oh well, live (spend) and learn .

EDIT : Why ? because I feel too lazy to do precise level matching that my current 16-bit VS-880EX requires, so a 24-bit unit seemed like a good idea (note to self : never go Ebay shopping while drunk)

EDIT2: I wonder if adding an 8 channel MY8-AE AES EBU I/O board and some S/PDIF to AES EBU converter would allow multiple S/PDIF inputs easily, or whether I would still need to find a way sync the clocks of the S/PDIF sources to the AW4416's internal clock . Even if it worked, it would not be an inexpensive solution .

Well, it arrived yesterday . It is huge and weighs 30-odd lbs ! It will have to go on top of my 3 storey lackrack ( https://web.archive.org/web/20210124024612/ht … ex.php/LackRack ) . But, as a bonus it came with an 8-input card, so I now have have a 16-input digital mixer ! I plan to set the thing atop a "lazy Susan" type rotating tray . Additionally, I would like to have it on an angled, wedge shaped equipment stand but the only things resembling this that I can find at a reasonable price are meant for laptops an d hence too shallow and not sturdy enough. I may need to design and build my own .

Before I do any of that, I will wait for my DS12887 replacement from these folks https://www.tindie.com/products/glitchwrks/gw … acement-module/ and corresponding socket to arrive . Then, I will disassemble the beast and decide whether to try unsoldering myself or to seek professional help . Incidentally, the battery is still detected as good, so it may already have been replaced and/or socketed . I will know when I open it . Oh, and, surprisingly, the SCSI CD-R drive still works (at least as a reader), so I am really lucky it seems, even if my only use case for this is upgrading the firmware (which is already current enough for my needs).

Sooooo, yeah. Looks like this thing just sold for 35k $.

Yikes! That's truly insane. You have to have so much disposable income to spend $35,000 on a CRT. I think that sets the record for the highest price I've seen a PC-related item sell for since I started paying attention to this stuff.

I bet a YouTuber bought it. Linus will have a video about it in a few weeks...

Anyway, I just bought a pretty nifty looking item. I'm really hoping the BIOS is PC compatible, but it is definitely the craziest ISA video card I've ever seen.

falcon64_tiga.jpg

It is a Salient Systems AT3000. It has a Sierra Daytona 64 (only ever seen on PCI cards), coupled with a 175Mhz Ti DAC... and a TMS34020APCM (marked 340x) TIGA processor, on an ISA card with two video outputs.

The only mention I can find of the card is a single line in a .doc file here: http://bigbro.biophys.cornell.edu/internal_in … are_Catalog.doc

Salient Systems Corporation AT3000 TIGA drivers v2.20.2.30 (8/9/96)

Seller says it came from an ADE CR8X system, which Google tells me is a "Wafer Inspection System" from 2002! (Not text searchable, but it is mentioned near the bottom of the 13th page of the PDF).

Anyway... I have no idea what to expect with this, but all of that added up to a "must buy" oddity. I'm hoping that at the very least the Daytona64 is usable, as that is a very late VGA chip for an ISA card. 😀

There are some pics / BIOS dumps? on bitsavers

http://ww.bitsavers.org/pdf/salient/at3000/

A search for AT3000 + Salient links to a number of science / research articles, some of which mention it's use in PC-based systems

Awesome news! Thank you! Hopefully some drivers show up. It was listed as "Open Box" and described as a "spare" but I have no idea if it comes with software. If it does, you can bet I'll be posting them here. 😀

EDIT: Those pictures are amazingly clear! Looks like it has 4MB of VRAM for the TIGA and 1MB of FPM for the Falcon 64. Both look to have room for more memory... though there's probably little practical use for an ISA card with 2MB of VRAM and a 10MB TIGA.

That's really too high, looks like troll(s) shilling the auction. It's private listing too so you can't see feedback number of each person = easier to troll. It isn't worth nearly that much, you would be lucky to sell it for ~$2000. Perhaps a little over that to someone with a large disposable income. I find it hard to believe there would be more than 1 person interested in this who has a large disposable income at the same time and a huge bidding war ensued. It will probably get relisted and enjoy the fruits of all that free advertising we are giving them with buzz posts like these.

Yours appears to be the AT3000 Rev D (Sierra Falcon 64 on-board VGA) whereas the previous versions used the CL-5429 instead

I'm hopeful that the Falcon 64 makes this a fairly decent card. Compatibility for that chip seems decent based on what I found, and unless there is some issue with the implementation on this card, the performance is probably among the best on ISA, simply because it's a much newer chip.

I've tried a few of the usual sites\archives looking for files or directories including at3000 but haven't come up with anything.

I think we could use a thread for old driver archives\repositories here.

EDIT: Found a post from 2007 referring to a usenet post from 1995 that mentions the card...

Here's another good one, though it's incredibly slow and very disorganized.
ftp://ftp.dyu.edu.tw/pub/
For example, there's tons of stuff listed under Hardware/vendor/Diamond which has nothing to do with Diamond. I don't think there's anything at3000 related there, but I honestly don't know. Is there an easy way to search an FTP? I haven't worked with them much.

Even if it seems OK it is only a matter of time before acid starts corroding things...

True that. The best way to determine if recap is in dire need, are when the A1200 or A600 begins to smell of fish, after powering on for 20 minutes.

And yup. It is a great catch. The seller call it a gentlemans deal. So I need to owe up to my word of being a gentleman. Perhaps I will need to sell some of my old stuff a bit cheaper than market price, just to get money in, to cover this 1200.

Do you know what a boxed Buslogic VLB SCSI controller is worth by the way?

Quite right. And that particular eBay listing seems to have scratches. 🙁

Yep, I've heard the rumors, but my plan is to pair it with some strong PSU like Thermaltake Toughpower or smth.
Actually I've bought this motherboard for the second time. The first was in 2007, but I've run out of money and didn't finished my build as planned. Now I got plenty of money and I'll finish it with some nice nVidia SLI setup.

I've bought this ASUS M2N Sli Deluxe. It came with AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ and 4 sticks of 1GB DDR-2 PC2-6400.
Paid $12.
The motherboard is a bit dusty, but I'll take care of that. The nice touch is that it has I/O shield.

I have the same board, beware that it can be a bit fussy sometimes, mine would often complain about a "USB overload" thing, probably my PSU that doesn't put enough juice on the 5V rail or something else - I don't really know what went down as I had nothing plugged into the USB ports.

Otherwise it's a nice board, I bought mine to replace a M2N-MX with bad caps.

PC1: Highscreen => FIC PA-2005, 64 MB EDO RAM, Pentium MMX 200, S3 Virge + Voodoo 2 8 MB
PC2: AOpen => GA-586SG, 512 MB SDRAM, AMD K6-2 400 MHz, Geforce 2 MX 400

Of course, VOGONs is a wonderful source of drivers. Most of those will come up in searches though. I mean the weird little dark corners of the internet that house large driver archives. Like these:

https://www.elhvb.com/mobokive/Archive/index.html
ftp://ftp.aztech.com/SUPPORT/DOWNLOAD/

There are others, I've just lost track of them over the years.

Thanks for the extra links, very nice! Hopefully somebody will dump all that to archive.org eventually. Nice sites/FTPs like that come and go...

For example, there's tons of stuff listed under Hardware/vendor/Diamond which has nothing to do with Diamond. I don't think there's anything at3000 related there, but I honestly don't know. Is there an easy way to search an FTP? I haven't worked with them much.

You could first try wget with the -r -l options and then take it from there: https://www.gnu.org/software/wget/manual/html … al-Options.html

I might have gotten the deal of the year. An Amiga1200 for the price of shipping and what I then want to pay once I recieve it. The thing is, that it is in unknown condition. I will post some images, once it have arrived by mail in the next week. The only thing I know about it so far, is that it is physically intact. Personally I suspect that it needs a deep clean and a recap.

Nice. Even if it isn't working and you didn't or couldn't repair it, you'd easily be able to recoup the money by selling it on for parts.

If they're selling it like that, then it's probably as you said - not working and needing recapping. But good luck, if it's working it's an absolute steal!

If it comes with the original PSU, make sure you test that first as you are no doubt very well aware how bad Commodore power supplies can be.

Thanks. Well. Yeah..... I am going to put some money into this machine, in order to have it up and running. I can not do any SMD soldering, so it will be
shipped to a person that I have been recommended for recapping. He is on Amibay, and his work seems good and solid.

Else I suspect it needs a new membrane, and the case might need to be swapped with one of them new ones, that they created new molds for making.
My plan is to have it upgraded with as much memory as I can put into it, and then a scandoubler for future proofing it in regards to monitors.
Scandoublers were extremely hard to get a hold on, back in 2006 when I had to let my old 1200 go. It was a nice machine with 030-50 and PCMCIA SCSI.

Today it is quite easy to get parts for any type of vintage computer, compared to back then, as it can be purchased online.
That is perhaps the best thing about the current pandemic. Namely that it have become really easy to buy all sort of things online now.
Like carpets, kitchen machines, and everything else. That is perhaps the best thing that have come out of all this.

Just won this on eBay for 99p. Mac Pro "Quad core" 2.66GHz (Dual Xeon 5150) CPU with what appears to be a 4GB upgrade, and the original Nvidia 7300GT video card. No hard drives but that's soon fixed. The brackets were included. No idea if it works but I assume it does. Now how to work out how to install an OS on it...
