Hi!

I am currently running Windows XP SP3 on some old hardware (Athlon X4 630 / Radeon HD 5750/Audigy 2 ZS) and although the hardware itself is more Windows Vista era budget gaming it has solid driver support and can so far handle any Windows XP game I can throw at it without issue.

Since I am running it on a older 21" widescreen I have looked into modding widescreen support into some of these older Windows XP games. I am currently playing Max Payne 1 and 2 and they run without issue umodded with original discs + patches. I have tried ThirtenAG's widescreen fix/mod for the games but I can not get the games to run when I add the mod-files. Everytime I add the loader and scripts folder to the base games it throws up a error message that Max Payne needs a graphics adapter that can run DirectX 8/9 when I try to start the games up. I have installed a couple of different Catalyst driver versions but to no success. I have also tried one of fixes for to solve crash at startup but that just throws crash reports instead of graphics adapter error messages.

Has anyone got any idea what the issue could be and if so if there is a solution? Are there any other working widescreen mods for Max Payne out there that works with Windows XP?`

Thank you for your time!

From the widescreen fix github page:

Important notes

Not compatible with Windows XP

The problem is probably that the fix was compiled with Visual Studio and a target OS later than XP was used.

It might be fixable by downloading the sourcecode and compiling it yourself with XP selected.

You can try an older version: https://lutris.net/files/games/max-payne/MP1_ … escreen_fix.zip
You can also try OneCoreApi

Huh, besides the menu screen being a bit glitchy for a couple of seconds and exiting the game generating a crash log this older version actually worked fine! Widescreen is working properly!

Seeing how Max Payne 2 had the same issues, do you know where I could get hold of older builds of that fix?

EDIT: Found an older build and it sadly does not work for Max Payne 2. Gonna take a shot at compiling the source code for Windows XP and see how it goes.
