Yep, original hardware is pretty much dead weight at this point.
I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
It's the same as the Pi accelerator for the BBC Tube interface, or the one you can add to the ZX Spectrum Next, or any of the dozens of other 8/16bit microcomputers to which it has been added.
I don't see the problem - it's a neat solution for when you want to use the bulk of the original hardware, but want a faster processor (the options for which are pretty limited and/or expensive for those systems, whereas the Pi is dirt cheap). It's only replacing the 68k core, which has been extremely well emulated for a couple of decades now, so it's not like it has to to the Amiga chipset with all of it's peculiarities and quirks.

At first I thought this was the Pi to HDMI adapter.
Does the PI have access to the ports on the back of the Amiga? The joystick ports? If it made all the ports accessible to the PI, that would be cool.
Weird and neat all at once.
It is a nice project. I have been following it for some time.

For a bit more info, then you can find it on Hackaday

If my puny brain is understanding this, the PI Storm requires an external USB keyboard? Or is that only for setup, or optional?
No, you can use either. You set it up in the Pistorm config. I setup my Pistorm completely external to the Amiga, then dropped it in. I have mine just doing CPU + Z3 RAM, and RTG. I've also got a Pi Zero running rgb2hdmi in the video slot
Pistorm really isn't weird at all, and not much different than running other non-680x0 accelerators.
Ok, that's awesome.
Much of this stuff is new to me, as I only recently picked up an Amiga. My friend had one 30 years back, but we mostly played on PCs.
