I have Version 2.0 of this game. Dunno where I got it but it's the same as the CD-ROM version I used to have years ago then got rid of because it could not be finished.

My current attempt:
Dell Dimension B110/1100 PC running XP Pro, 512meg RAM. Built in Intel video and sound.
DOSbox .65, latest D.O.G. beta, dos32a (which made no difference except it ran, and did its buggy thing, a bit smoother and faster).

What happens is at some point in a game, might happen right away, might start it when you're 90% done, it will dump you out of the crew selection, damage control or shop programs to the main starbase one, or when attempting to land on a planet it'll dump you onto the planet with the last team and weapons you used, or it'll kick you back into space. It'll do the same when trying to board a ship you've disabled.

On a real PC in DOS, clicking buttons makes a "bleep" sound, when it goes haywire it plays that sound several times then dumps you out of the selection screens. No bleep heard in DOSbox, but all other sounds seem to work.

Once the game starts this, you're toast, it will not stop doing it. You have to start a new game and hope it won't start in again with the bug, bit for me it's done it 100% of the time. Eventually it gets so bad that you can't even get into the shop and ship editing screens, it flashes their screens on and boots you right back to the starbase screen.

This game uses several .exe programs, every different screen is a different program. The main STARSHIP.COM is a little 3K program which stays resident and manages swapping in and out the programs BRIDGE.EXE, COMANDER.EXE, CREWEDIT.EXE, FILES.EXE, GROUND.EXE, INTRO.EXE, MAIN.EXE, NAV.EXE, SHIPEDIT.EXE, SHOP.EXE, STARBASE.EXE and TACTICAL.EXE Just a WAG here, but it seems to me that the program that manages switching amongst all those programs must be the problem. If something can be done with DOSbox to force the flinking thing to work, that'd be great.

This game does this on every PC I've ever tried it on and every PC/DOS emulator I've tried. IIRC, the PC I had when I had the CD was a 386.

There's what looks like a different version on HOTU, game 3118. The Damage Control/Ship Edit screenshot there is totally different from the version I have. Anyone know what version it is? Anyone been able to actually finish the game with that one with DOSbox? (If it does the same, I ain't downloading 10megs on dialup for a game that won't work.)
