I upgraded this Socket 7 motherboard with a copy of MR BIOS i found the Vogons driver library. It is amazing how much better it runs with this BIOS upgrade. I did have to reconfigure the devices in Windows 98 SE, which is not surprising. I was wondering if others had similar experiences with MR BIOS upgrades to their motherboards.

I now have support for greater than 8.4GB hard drives. There are tweaking options for the chipset right in the BIOS setup. I have now can have a boot Menu if desired popup when booting. There is support for USB right in the BIOS if I were to add a USB card. That is what I mean by much better.

that's nice, but i doubt the BIOS would be able to do much with an add-on USB card - as it is, the USB BIOS options for onboard stuff are already hit-and-miss on boards of that vintage. the marl board actually had onboard USB as a manufacturing option according to the manual, so that's probably what that option would be for.

Hi jasa1063, I have a dumb question kind of since it's been like 4 years since the creation of this topic I have the same Mobo and I don't know where I put the BIOS.REC file that the mrflash tool makes and I want to go back to the original bios. Do you have a copy of that file?

I grabbed db06 and db08 did the "bios A:" thing as it told me to, I boot off of the floppy and it gives me "This system does not support FLASH memory updating. Please consult your user's guide or computer service specialist"

Ah sounds like the original bootblock is gone so you need to use awdflash or something from a plain DOS boot.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

You need to turn off your computer
Insert floppy with BIOS
Set the revovery jumper on your motherboard to ON position
Turn on your computer
It will boot in blind recovery mode
It takes up to 5 minutes to recovery and you can hear beeps and sounds of floppy

Need help? Begin with photo and model of your hardware 😉

Hi, do you still have the BIOS.REC file for that Mobo?

Hello there, I've stumbled upon this thread since it got necro'd and decided to do it for myself with my board that's Micron based but it seems I'm having some problems.
I do have a "NVRAM data invalid" message on startup but I though that could've gone away if I flashed MRBIOS. Unfortunately the flasher would not erase the bios. That made me try flashing a stock bios (DB08 and 09DB05) but it seems to give out a failed to erase or hardware issue error. Going for the recovery mode by using the floppy disk shows no results. Not sure I'm doing that one wrong as I tried putting the EXE bios file and the extracted files on the floppy disk only to hear no floppy sounds. Are there any jumpers or extra steps that you've done to successfully flash MRBIOS?
