Hello,
I got a pc-chips maybe? or some general tx pro 2 motherboard. 256k cache, 2 different types of ram and onboard audio, usb and video. It did have a problem that it would get stuck in post screen after detecting hard drive after the motherboard shows all the com, lpt ports, cache etc info screen. It says something like harddrive detected as such and such...booting or bootsector....OK and hangs there.
When i bought it i thought it was broken harddrive and tested with another 2ish GB drive and it doesnt work either. It had some linux in it and the motherboard got stuck in the first post screen where it checks memory and auto detects disks. Well it goes into bios if you push del key before the detection so i changed the settings from bios via autodetect, then it went through the post and i got it bootin from floppy. Dos cant install or fdisk the disk, it either gets stuck or gives and error. I installed partitioned the disk and installed dos in a 486 machine and it worked but back to the socket7 it acted the same. Sometimes i got so far as to browse the C: when booting from floppy and sometimes i could even do fdisk mbr but still no booting.
Next i tried 2 different ide_to_sd cards in both ide channels, the same thing with different cables and 4 different sizes of sd cards from 64mb to 16gb. Also did a 64mb and 512mb card in that 486 machine but still the same thing. It had a cyrix 233 processor in the beginning but changed to 233mmx and also tried different memory modules, 2 different video cards, an s3 virge and s3 trio 64 and atleast that virge had some weird graphical problems in every pci slot not in the bios or before that but going to the next screen and dos it acts like bad reception on TV, black distortion lines going horizontally but the same virge works just fine in another socket7 motherboard.
Is it maybe faulty chip in there or could it be just caps? caps look fine though. I have seen same kind of problems before but cant remember what was the cause. Or if someone knows if zida tomato 4vdx can be used with 233mmx with some unknown jumper settings? Manual says it only supports up to 200mmx. One thing that came to my mind, iam still using the same power supply that came with the tx pro-2 mobo. Havent tested it but i guess if some lines wouldnt work at all it wouldnt even post and the 486 did work just fine with it.
Thanks in advance.
