What sound cards are you using?
Big drawcard of XP is its the last OS to support DirectSound IMHO.

I'm also thinking of setting up an XP rig with a core duo and a GTX 770 I found in a drawer not sure if it is a good idea. I lack a PSU though.

ummm most are using integrated audio, except for the Athlon X2, it has an Audigy 2 ZS, I plan on getting sound cards for them, some form of Audigy or X-Fi, just as money allows.

I still have quite a few XP rigs, but they are almost never used anymore. The most advanced one is a Core 2 Duo laptop. And there are also two Pentium 4-M laptops (one dual-booting XP with ME) and two Pentium M laptops (one dual-booting XP with 7) The only XP desktop I have is a Pentium 4 HT. It's at my parents' place.

That's cool. I'm not much of a multiplayer guy myself. The only time I remember playing Quake 3 with friends at the dorms was like... 15-16 years ago? I had a Thinkpad T42 and didn't even have a mouse. Somehow managed to snipe them with the railgun using the trackpoint for aim...

And, yes, I still have that T42, and that's one of the XP rigs! I no longer use it as a gaming system, obviously. 😜

Nice man ! I have an R52, Its a 2GHz Pentium M 760 and an ATI Radeon X300, I got it cheap with original ac adapter just so I could claim to be in the Thinkpad club 🤣. Turns out most of the club have big egos.
I didn't get into multiplayer gaming until I met my best friend back in 2005, and I went straight to the deepend with Battlefield 2, at the time I only had a Geforce FX 5200, and Battlefield killed it the first LAN I went to 🤣.

I did play the crap out of the Quake 3 Demo when it came out in my HS days. Those bots had no chance haha!

Nice rigs! Your Thermaltake Tsunami case is not very different from the Thermaltake Lanmoto that hosts my Pentium 4 desktop. Except the Lanmoto has the fan controller and the 90mm side fan in the window, and I've upgraded all fans to blue LED fans. 😜

That would be divisive, I mean the naming of it for a start, 4play or 4nication? 🤣

Thank you! It's amazing that they still work. Of course they are barely used nowadays, with the exception of that P4 system. But even that will move into deeper retirement, as I plan to put a Core 2 Duo laptop next to it, running Windows 7, for better compatibility with modern software/web.

A p4 fan club... I had a couple of 478 systems but my Asus CT479 ate them for dinner. 😂
