Hey I've been wondering the same thing, although some youtube videos about an NEC V40 recently drew my interest away.
Couldn't ever find a datasheet for the PT8010AF chip but from what I've read they are interchangeable.

If you had the PT8010AF, you could check whether the grounds match. Or if you ever happen to come across this board, you could trace out where the pins go and see if they match up with where the FE2010 pins go. The bidding went too high for me to bother with this one but the pictures might be useful for reference:

I asked PT8010AF vendors for datasheet, but they say they don't.
The insidious replicas and everything seems to be a secret.

Just a guess. The secret may well be that it's a copy of a copyrighted chip that Proton doesn't have a licence for. If I did this, I wouldn't be happy to release any more info than saying "it's 100% compatible" either 😜

Pinout looks the same (there is a match on VDD & VSS). But it doesn't seem to be a direct replacement in my setup. It might need different bios code, more investigation is needed..

I actually have a working 8088 laptop with Proton chipset (see attachment). I wish I had the motherboard shown by Thermalwrong, that would make reversing a whole lot easier. As it's not a direct replacement in my setup (commodore PC-I motherboard with FE2010) I wanted to be sure my aliexpress proton chip is working so I replaced the laptop proton with the aliexpress one, proton chip is definitely working and is not a counterfeit. Reversing was done by tracing known pins (8088, F82C710, etc..) back to the proton, that's how I verified the above. I hope to find the differences so we can all further enjoy Sergey's work..
