I call bullsh!t that doom can get any better going faster than a dx2-66 with a good graphics card.

I think you're right, unless you're of the opinion that >24fps is noticeably better in DOS. Check my cachebench chart:

Doom breaks 24fps right at DX2-66.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

Note that Doom 1 and Doom 2 have a maximum FPS of 35. Only the benchmark mode allows FPS above 35.
My benchmarks here. IIRC this is with the default setting of 1 level of green border.
An intel 486 DX2/66 on a tuned VLB motherboard shows 35 FPS at average. Which also means the game will go below 30 FPS in certain game situations. Even more so when the screen is set to full / no green border.

See my chart for comparison:

Which graphics card is being used in that comparison?

Just by experiences, a DX2-66 is fine most of the time, but you will run into some areas / levels and feel it slow down. Because the game is v-synced and capped at 35 FPS, there is no harm in having a faster machine. Heck an i7 can run Doom 😀

So for me I like playing it on a Pentium.

I am testing a Dx2 adn Dx4-Overdrive on a UMC VLB board and with a good vga like the CL-GD5429 I would say that a Dx2 is "the time-right-correct config" for the first Doom with the right frame rate even if not always perfectly smooth as you'd see from a Pentium not slow (just some slowdowns rarely I'd say).
Maybe the right cpu it would be the Dx4-100 for a correct config.
