No, but that would need an active converter since HDMI is digital and VGA is analog

Perhaps one of these ???
Currently assembled vintage computers I own: 11
Most important ones:
A "modded" Olivetti M4 434 S (currently broken).
An Epson El Plus 386DX running MS-DOS 6.22 (currently broken).
Celeron Coppermine 1.10GHz on an M754LMRTP motherboard

Yes, except this one also provides audio as well
Do they preseve the aspect ratio ? Or is text mode stretched, for example ?
Just asking, because I love text adventures (aka interative fiction).

My Hauppauge HD PVR doesn't stretch anything.
Although I'm getting a new capture card, but this time PCI.

Virge Descent looks great too - I like it better then the unofficial 3dfx version since the mouse works and you get the cockpit view - and I like the texture filtering on it better too. Performance is pretty bad tough...

You can use it as a testing card.
Especially since you don't have any other PCI graphics cards.
Yep, a fail-safe in case the onboard video of those mobos without an AGP slot suddenly fail.

Yup! ^^
Or for when you expect problems with the AGP portion of one's build, including things like driver problems.
I used it as a "testing" card on my dear Abit NF-7 (the one which doesn't seem to show anything but powers up just fine) and I saw completely nothing...

And in case you can't come up with anymore uses, here's the old standby:

Shame you seem to have a dead board, no graphics card will help you fix that 🙁
(it could be the caps, no graphics card will compensate for that)

So you were the person using play-doh on certain rare graphics cards? *starts searching for tar and feathers and leads angry mod to clueless1's home* (just kidding of course 😜)
wrote:You can try Tomb Raider on that card, on 320x240 and 512x384 work good with that card, I have 4 MB S3 Virge and setting up in windows 1024x768x24 gets very blurry screen, that`s normal with that card?
And that`s photo of my card:
In The Netherlands, this particular layout seemed to be the absolutely most common variant of Virge/Virge DX/Virge ?? in existance 😁
Personally I think they are really good cards, quite versatile for what they are. Even the AGP versions might prove useful, I kinda regret not keeping all the AGP S3 cards and Trio's (I only kept the Virges...mostly).
I have a S3 Virge at home.. ..
I never get to test that yet, as I am unable to decide...
should I...
1. put S3 Virge, or a Trident Card, into a Pentium 1 233MMX?
2. The original Mechwarrior 2 (MSDOS GAME), you can set the game resolution...(up to 1024x768, if i am not mistaken) so, will upgrading the S3 Virge RAM from 2 to 4MB, helps?
😊

I would pick the S3 over the Trident. Regarding 1024x768, you should be fine with 2MB of RAM, though I'm not sure how well MW2 will run at that res on a 233MMX. I'm guessing 640x480 will run well, and 800x600 will be "pushing it".
Assuming 256 colors (which is 8bits per pixel): 1024x768x8=6291456/8 (8 bits per byte)=786432 bytes of video memory needed. So 2MB should be able to handle that fine.
edit: you will probably have to run Univbe or S3 VBE to add VBE 2.0 support in order to get the SVGA resolutions.

Sorry, I mistakenly mention S3Virge..
Mine is S3 Trio 64 V...
and here is my Trident...
Any verdict/recommendation?
Edited: After looking at http://gona.mactar.hu/DOS_TESTS/ , I will stick with S3 Trio... thanks all.. 😀

Chips are not that hard to find, or expensive.

Will this Chip from ebay, is compatible with my S3 Trio 64V? (See my pic in my previous post)
If yes.... any benefit from upgrading it? 😕
I've got many of them, and I'm using currently more S3 in my retro-rigs, as I've seen they are very problems-free, and so much compatible - although they are for sure not that powerful... I'm using one AGP model, I think 3D/2x in my PIII-based build, and another PCI one, Virge if I'm remembering right, in one of my 486. Really, no problems at all! Take in consideration to use them for your retro projects, if you don't need somethiing really powerful and dedicated.

I own, by the other models, this exact model too - never mounted, yet.

Similarly, a Virge makes a decent fan to cool yourself on hot days.
