Funny thing regarding bmp vs jpg is that back in the day, I always converted background images to bmp since decoding of jpg images hogged my general desktop performance. Not sure if it was on the 486dx2 or later on with k6-233 and Millennium 2 graphics ..

wouldn't it only have to decode it once at startup?

I would've thought that too, but no, changing desktop image to bmp rather than jpg made a world of difference to smoothness of operation ...?

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

At least in Win98, you needed to "run your desktop as a web page" to use .jpg images for a background. That was what crippled performance.

My builds!
The FireStarter 2.0 - The wooden K5
The Underdog - The budget K6
The Voodoo powerhouse - The power-hungry K7
The troll PC - The Socket 423 Pentium 4

Oh yes, how right you are. That was the reason 😀

The right background reminds me a bit of deathtrack, pretty neat. Want to make the wallpapers available for download?

Found it.
Hi-res (1600x1200) animated GIF (the mentioned wallpaper is actually a screeshot or a single frame from it).

I started playing around with SiS chipset boards (socket 370, socket A, socket 478) and decided I wanted a wallpaper for my first SiS build - a Tualeron 1100 on an Asus TUSI-M (SiS 630). Hope you guys like it:

I saved the PDF file with all the different layers, so if someone would like a different resolution say 1600x1200, just let me know.
