just checked, this is a 400~450e card here (tax included) so it's not that bad... hmmm 😁

Just avoid the 8GB version, it's not worth saving 50 EUR for half the VRAM.

And if you want more options, check this video by Hardware Unboxed. They review the GPUs by price range, and should give you a good idea what's worth getting.

if anyone has a suggestion for a gpu do tell because now I fell in the rabbit hole of specs and stats and I want to get the 5070ti but I cannot really justify the cost 🤣 so I am all ears on this one , I've been out of the loop for quite some time now
ideally spending something like 400e in the end sounds good to me

I was in the market for a gpu and $400US was my budget. I narrowed it down to either the Radeon 9600XT 16GB (~380) or the GeForce RTX5060Ti 16GB (~430). The 5060Ti is a little faster and a little more expensive, plus has better RT and upscaling performance. Either of those would be a great upgrade.

I ended up getting a 5070Ti for my son at MSRP (~750). He will give me his 4070 12GB and $400. He gets a 50% upgrade for $400 and I get a 50% upgrade for $400. The 4070 is a faster card for me than either the 906oXT or the 5060Ti, so it was a win-win for the two of us.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

I agree 100%.

Here is a chart a made up when trying to decide. The cost was determined by price checking between Newegg and Amazon and is specific to my location. The average FPS was taken from a recent comparison at techpowerup.com. The cost for the RTX4070 was what I paid for it a couple of years ago. Current pricing is much higher. And the RTX2080 framerates were thrown in because that is what I am upgrading from in my system.

thanks both of you for the info it seems 9060xt/5060ti is the "medium" card now - exactly what I need
will check local prices and decide which to get

Both are very good picks in that price range.

When I was building my last system, I went with Nvidia because I wanted DLSS, or more specifically DLAA. I'm also very used to their drivers, and I like to customize game settings via Nvidia Profile Inspector. But AMD has a really strong mid range offering this generation, so it's basically down to one's preferences. Also, if you're thinking about gaming on Linux in the future, then AMD is a better choice, due to their superior driver support on that OS.
