Hi guys. Got a ZS 2 I/O drive, and found out my Xtrememusic card didn't have a 1394 header. So I decided to just do it myself!

First, I needed to get firewire internally, since my motherboard didn't have a header. I had one PCI slot free, but the bracket was taken up by my FlexiJack Digital I/O module. So I had to track down a PCI riser cable, and slap a firewire card in there. Wasn't too hard - used an antistatic bag as insulation.

Then my next challenge was connecting the 1394 header to the card. The pinout is available:

I went and followed the pinout and made a firewire-to-SB1394 header adapter out of old junk I had laying around.

I made this adapter with the intention of connecting it to the existing SB1394 header cable I have, so I didn't need to modify the original cable or drive at all.
The pinout asks for two grounds and two +12v, but those two sets of pins are common with each other, so it wasn't needed.

Taped and cleaned it up a bit, and routed the header cable as neatly as possible to the adapter from the I/O drive.

And - voila, it works great!

Xtrememusic with the Audio Creation mode control panel, plus two sets of digital I/O simultaneously, AND front firewire... What more could you ask for in an old music production PC?

Hope this helps someone who wants to do something similar!
