second ide connector works but super slow not shure why i tried difrent settings in the bios
jumpers are correct i think first ide connectors works perfect ,i removed all hardware exept vga card
mobo is a sis 496/7

Problems with Secondary IDE on 486 SIS boards are pretty common.
I don't know if there's a solution...

i think i solved the problem the second ide connector is only for the cd rom ! i have the cf card on the first ide connector and the cd rom on the second ide connector
everythings now and is fast

If i recall correctly, primary ide is usually connected over VLB and secondary ide may be connected over ISA. That makes the biggest difference.

Stuck at 10MHz...

That is the case for many early PCI motherboards, only primary channel on local bus, secondary on ISA. Didn’t think pio over vlb would be noticably faster than pio over isa, but perhaps that is what you are seeing there.

ISA only allows for PIO mode 0 - 3.3 MB/s.
VLB allows for PIO mode 4 - 16.7 MB/s.

But in this particular case I suspect the problem was the CF card - they aren't 100% compatible with IDE HDDs, which often causes problems.
