Hello to all classic enthusiasts 😀
There is a task:
This problem has been around for a long time, but we want to find a solution... maybe someone has an idea.
Windows 98 + USB keyboard and mouse.
Initially, Windows was installed with a USB keyboard and mouse. But now a different USB keyboard and mouse have been connected.
Currently, this computer is far away, and it's not possible to send it the original devices.
In short, we need to make the computer work with the USB keyboard and mouse.
Please do not suggest buying a PS/2 mouse for 10 euros, because the computer does not have these connections. The computer only has USB.
The USB keyboard and mouse work perfectly in Safe Mode but do not work when Windows loads normally.
Initially, a message appears saying the computer cannot find the mouse. I added a line to the win.ini file, and the computer stopped showing this message.
And of course, the computer displays a message saying "New HID hardware found, click NEXT to continue." But this cannot be done because the mouse and keyboard are not yet recognized.
So, is it possible to make Windows load standard drivers as it does in Safe Mode?
Or, when the new hardware detection mode appears, to automatically click NEXT?
If we can press NEXT with at least one device, our USB devices will be recognized, as the USB drivers are installed, but obviously for a different hardware ID.
Thank you to everyone who can provide any relevant suggestions.

I would like to try search for old keyboard VID/PID in the system registry (in the safe mode or by run REGEDIT.EXE from DOS session) and replace them by new keyboard VID/PID .
