Looking at the 5.25 bays for the Audigy 2 range and the Xfi and they look like they have the same IO (except the missing FireWire on the X-fi). The pin count and labelling on the headers looks the same.

Does anyone know (or can try) if the ZS front bay works when connected to a PCI X-Fi card?

yes they are. Just hooked up an Audigy ZS 2 front panel to a PCI X-Fi Xtreme Music.
