Hello.

My first contact with a voodoo graphics card.

It's voodoo banshee, written on it is "Diamond Multimedia 1998".

I am a bit confused about the driver here.

Can you please suggest me the go-to latest official driver for this card, to use on windows 98 se?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the banshee is known to be not the fastest voodoo but it does not need a separate 2d video card. And you get native 3dfx glide support.

So if you want glide, if you have this card and if you don't want to go broke on another voodoo (2/3) go for it. You may always change if you want to 😉

Stuck at 10MHz...

*shrug*

I don't get this hate for the Banshee in 2024... compared to later Geforce cards (which can run Glide wrappers if needed) all 3dfx cards under-perform. Even the Voodoo3 isn't really adequate for 1024x768 in a lot contemporary games if you expect a solid 60fps. If you want to see what gaming on a Voodoo was like back in the day, then you can get one and use it. If you want the best performance possible there are plenty of much better (cheaper, and cooler running) alternatives.

Taken for what it is, a Banshee is a solid performer with great compatibility in 3D accelerated games, DOS and just about everything else relevant to a ~1998 computer. As waterbeesje said, if you want Glide support (without using a newer card and a wrapper), and you already have a Banshee you might as well use it.

I do recommend making sure it gets some air flow over it though. These cards get HOT. They seem to be able to withstand a lot of heat (Banshees and Voodoo3s are often discolored from heat but still working), but air flow will help to prolong it's life.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.
