Hey all,
I'm building a Win98 machine and trying to understand Glide Compatibility issues.

I've got a Voodoo 5 PCI or pair of Voodoo 2s to work with. My understanding is the V5 will have some issues with earlier Glide games. (ignoring DOS games)

From what I've read early games like Interstate 76 or Mech Warrior 2 will have issues due to their glide version (2.x) but having trouble finding specific confirmation.

I know trying to find reliable sources these days is difficult on the internet...for example I would expect Descent Freespace 1 would work just fine on either, (from late 90s) but from what I'm seeing it has a Glide 1.x version (which seems really wrong and has to be incorrect).

Anyway, any assistance you can help with to clarify would be greatly appreciated.

Hello.

Anything using Glide 2.1.1 (GLIDE.DLL and SST1INIT.DLL files on Windows) won't run on the Voodoo5 due to changes in the architecture starting with the Voodoo Banshee. A single Voodoo2 can deal with these after applying some environment variables.

Games using later versions of Glide (2.43 and later) should have no problems with the Voodoo5. Keep in mind that some may require reducing the amount of texture memory.

Thanks! Is there any master list that shows what version a given game uses for Glide?

AFAIK, there isn't a proper master list showing what version of the Glide API is used for each game. Closest one being from PCGamingWiki, but has things that don't make sense and not all of them have the version specified.
