I have an PII 400Mhz with a ASUS P2B motherboard that i'm using as the main retro rig with Windows 98 for Windows games and the "MS-DOS Mode Super Easy" from PCL for DOS games.

There is a problem with the talkie games from LucasArts like Monkey Island 1 & 2 (Ultimate Talkie versions) and Fate of Atlantis etc that they crash whenever speech is going to happen. I'm using a PicoGUS 2.0 for MPU-401 to an MT-32 together with a Sound Blaster Pro 2 in MS-DOS and a Sound Blaster Live! SB0100 for Windows.

When i only had the SB0100 with SB16 emulation everything worked good in these games in MS-DOS but I added the SB Pro 2 for better support in older games overall and for all games it works flawless, especially where the SB0100 did not work so well. Except for the talkie games from LucasArts. These games freeze as soon as dialogue starts now.

SB0100: No drivers/SB16 Emu for MS-DOS
SB Pro 2: A220, IRQ7 and DMA1
PicoGus 2.0 MPU 401: IRQ 2/9, No DMA
Serial/LPT: Disabled in bios

What do you think could be the problem? I have tried all kinds of combinations with or without mouse, different IRQs etc without any luck 🙁

I was thinking that too but since it works just fine in these games with the SB 16 emulation from the SB0100 from Phils pack (livedos etc) and not when i switch back to the SB Pro 2 made me think something else with the SB Pro 2 was the culprit 😒

Could the CPU together with the SB Pro 2 be an issue compared withe SB 16 emulation?

The CPU. SCUMM hardlocks on fast CPUs aren't uncommon

I looked more into your thought on the CPU speed and tried the tool used here (CpuSpd - A Hardware Based CPU Speed Control Utility for DOS/Win9X Retro Gaming) CPUSPD and with a throttle of 4 it actually worked like clockwork! Thank you so much leileilol for the tip! 😀
