I have a SoundScape Opus card that I was using with my Windows 98SE PC. I had to reinstall Windows and now windows 98 doesn't seem to be able to find any drivers for the card. It detects it, but when it goes searching for drivers it can't find any. I can't seem to find any windows drivers for this card, just DOS ones (and it IS detected under DOS). Can someone point me in the right direction?

It was a Gateway 2000-specific OEM sound card. That means they were the primary source of drivers for it. It is very similar to the Soundscape S-2000 / II / Elite but it has ISA PnP support.

I have used the card but it was a very long time ago and I don't remember exactly which drivers you need. Some of the drivers here might work for it:

You can also search the forum and probably find answers.

By the way the Opus cards use a port address that some DOS games with native Soundscape support won't find. Some games have a config file that can be edited to have the correct value. I remember getting Crusader No Remorse working this way. And I know for certain I posted about that long ago so you might find more details.

I tried a Gateway System CD from June 1999 and it didn't have drivers for it (too new?).

Would drivers for the II or elite work with it? I think I saw those somewhere on the driver page

Yes it's possible the Win9x Soundscape driver supports the Opus. It definitely supports the original and Vivo cards and the Opus fits in between those. That driver pack will also install DOS drivers.

According to the Gateway support archive the attached Win 9x driver package (v4.00.38b) supported the Soundscape (but not VIVO) cards. It also mentions a slightly later InstallWizard version (v1.00.08) which supports the VIVO cards as well (still on the hunt for that one)...

The attachment ss_w95.exe is no longer available

That worked! Thank you! I've put this driver on a CD that I'll keep with my gear in case I need to do this again.

I would be nice to narrow down which drivers work with the Opus. The Win9x v4.02.945 driver installer did not work?

I will add the ss_w95.exe pack to VOGONSDrivers.

I didn't try those. Were they on the driver page? With the Opus I just saw drivers for DOS.

I just tested this driver on the Ensoniq SoundScape Opus V1 / Gateway 2000 card and it worked great in Windows 95. Once I finished this installation though, I tried to install the WIndows 3.1 driver from here https://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fil … menustate=62,53 and I think it messed up the PnP configuration somehow and my BIOS isn't able to complete the card startup anymore... Not sure what to do about that. I'll try turning it off for a little while and hopefully resolving it.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

Update:

Looks like my problem is only happening on a P5S-B board, it seems to be working fine on the other board I tested it on. I'm going to chalk this up to an incompatibility somewhere between the board and the card could even be the chipset but who knows. I've also tried a couple of different BIOSes on the P5B-S board, still nothing. I also tried clearing the CMOS by removing the battery for a little while and that cleared the ESCD.
