Heyyyyyyo,
I just got a beautiful SB Live! 0060 card and it works great in Windows. In pure Dos, however, the drivers refuse to load and sound won't work. I made another thread about this a few days ago but now that I know the real problem I've made this more specific one. Any help would be epic and hella appreciated.
Thanks

What is the real problem then?

Which drivers are you exactly trying to load, and how? (copy/paste relevant lines from CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, as well as the text of error messages you get when trying to run them).

What is more specific about this thread compared to SB16 driver not loading in DOS ?

That one actually lists a driver name. From the extension of the file it's looking for, it's possible you've installed the Windows Driver Model drivers instead of the Virtual xxx Driver (VxD; extension typically .VXD); this would mean that the .VXDs aren't going to be in your filesystem.

Nothing in either thread suggests DOS is rejecting the card. You just need to install the drivers correctly.

This is what came with the card. https://archive.org/details/sb0060/

Supposedly, this is a tested "pure DOS driver", but I don't have this card so I can't test it out. https://8bitboyz.com/download/sound-blaster-l … -ms-dos-driver/

If it was me, I would start with the drivers that came with the card, then if that didn't work, try the "pure DOS" driver.

I tried the Windows drivers but they wouldn't install correctly. I put the dos drivers in the autoexec along with what I think is the proper setblaster command. This still happens though

i used the Phil's Computer Lab version of Joseph Joestar's Audigy 2 zs drivers: https://www.philscomputerlab.com/uploads/3/7/ … er_live_2.1.zip

The attachment 20240801_144651.jpg is no longer available

This is what comes up on boot. When I use "win" it hangs. Doom won't start and just hangs the pc.
Thanks

What happens if you deactivate the sound again in the autoexec? Put an REM in front of the two (sound) lines and see what happens.

Could be a conflict with another PCI card. Maybe remove all other cards in the system and try again and make sure PnP OS is enabled in the BIOS. I had a PCI network card that was conflicting with my SB Live which prevented Windows from loading. Moving the network card to another slot resolved the issue.

I did have to remove a pair 3com network card to try to make a Sb live! work a while ago. The only other card I have in my pc now is a Diamond Savage 4 S540 3d card. I'll see if switching back to onboard video works but DAMN that's gonna be a lot of driver work

Windows is jank as hell. Doom's setup program crashes the whole damn thing and it just crashes after being left on for a while. I don't know what the hell to do

This happens when I try to run the Doom setup. Duke 3d works fine though

Did you test the RAM? Memtest or something?

And please tell us the exact specifications of the PC.

Is this what you mean by memtest? https://memtest.org/
I'll post the specs in a minute

Any memtest will do. It just depends on the age of the PC.
