Hello, I am trying to update the drivers for a SiS 6205 integrated graphics chip on a Vectra VE 133/5 Series 3 that I've installed Windows 98SE on. I pulled the driver package from the Vogons driver thread (Re: VOGONS Driver Library) and put the Win95 driver package onto a CD since that seems to be the closest match. Ran the setup and it did install some things, but then nothing happened after the restart. Graphics driver still reports windows generic drivers in control panel/device manager, can't select 256 colors in display settings either. I tried doing this from a floppy as well with no change. I also tried getting Windows to automatically search for drivers on the floppy and it just says that it already has the best drivers. I also tried some other driver package uploads floating around and non of those worked either. I would appreciate some ideas on how to proceed, Windows 98 isn't my wheel house (yet) so I'm pretty lost on what I could be doing wrong.

Thank you for your time.

RESOLVED

I can't yet edit post titles or private message the moderators even it seems, however I fixed this issue.

If someone else runs into this same issue, delete the basic video device in control panel > device manager and then restart. When windows finds the "new" hardware and asks for drivers you can select specific location, then have disk. Insert your floppy with the windows 95 drivers from the vogons drivers thread/database into A: drive and tell it to search there. It should pick up the drivers automatically from there. I copied the files plainly to the floppy so they wouldn't be behind a folder or anything. No other method I found worked. This allowed for 256 color/true color/ect to be enabled and all that.
