I am using Kramer HQV VP-730 scaler to output VGA signals to HDMI display in 4:3, it has many settings, good quality etc.
There is a pretty specific problem. On some video cards the 320x200x256 image would be dark blue, a bit flickery and I'd describe it as too sharp but not in a good way, as if it was squeezed and stretched back.
It's very evident in Duke3D, Quake, even Win98 splash screen boot logo. Other video modes don't have this problem.
Maybe someone has an idea what do these video cards have in common that's causing this.

Have the problem:

  • GeForce 2 GTS
  • GeForce 2MX 400
  • GeForce 4Ti 4200
  • Matrox G200 AGP
  • Matrox G450 AGP

Don't have the problem:

  • S3 Virge
  • S3 Trio64V2/DX
  • Trident TGUI9440
  • ATi Rage Pro Turbo AGP
  • ATi Rage128 Pro
  • ATi Radeon 9000
  • Intel i810
  • Voodoo 4 AGP
