4K HDMI To VGA Converters, what?

I have several high end screens with vga including a CRT that handles 2048x1536

None of my adapters go that, maxing out at 1920x1200 on the high end.

I’ve noticed some Chinese sellers pushing a little thing that looks like a box instead of a dongle that has 4k plastered all over hdmi-VGA.

Do any of these actually do this or is this a downconverter or just a lie?

I have a strange 1440p screen that lacks hdmi and would like to test a wide screen resolution above 1920x1200, maybe 2560x1200 but not sure if any name brand adapters (common) support above FHD on VGA using an hdmi or mini display port.

I'm pretty sure 2048x1536 is the highest resolution in the VGA specs. Beyond that, it has to be other outlets (eg DVI maxes out at 2560 x 1600, etc)

2048x1536 would be delightful but there are only 2 adapters hdmi->vga that reliably go that high and I haven’t found one for sale

Without adapters a few folks have direct driven them that high manually

Well I tried getting something higher than 1920x1200 and was able to get 2160x1200 using the nvidia control panel.

Trying to increase the vertical resolution seems to just cause “no signal “ which was the problem I had before.

Much past 2160 also gets no signal. Ah well it’s a very small improvement, really had to tweek the horizontal position and size to get it working.

Oddly I tried custom settings before but the nvidia control panel used to crap out using custom timings across multiple screens
