For those who like benchmarks, this thread is the right place. 😀

This year I finally managed to process all the data and create two articles covering this era of GPUs. The project was extremely long-term - started in 2012 and the last numbers were measured sometime in 2022 I think. During the years I seriously considered to abandon it as it was too time consuming. But in the end I made some cuts to make it more reasonable.... and here we are. 😁

You might be familiar with the first part that came out in February this year.

Here you can find most of the DX7 era hardware, including some rare pieces like GeForce2 Ultra, Radeon 7500 (full reference clocks) and for completeness even Voodoo4/5 and Kyro 2, even though these really don't like the new(er) games I tested. Then there are GeForce3, 4, Radeon 8500 and some lower end cards from the DX9 era.

Recently the rest went online too.

Like I do most of the time, there is some overlap between the consecutive articles. So here we start with DX8 class GPUs. Then there are most of the first generation DX9 cards - like Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700 Pro, 9800 XT, etc. From the green camp various FX cards, including the one and only FX 5800 Ultra 😁 And then of course many of the Radeon X series and GeForce 6/7.

Both articles are equipped with my latest interactive charts that should make the reading easier. Enjoy 😀

Thanks for this!

With these benchmarks, it's very easy to compare the performance of multiple GPUs at a glance. And if someone wants to take a deeper look at their supported feature sets, that's available too. Nice work!

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Core 2 Duo E8600 / Foxconn P35AX-S / X800 / Audigy2 ZS
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 980Ti / X-Fi Titanium

Great charts. I love to see multiple generations stack up.
On the other hand, I wish for more varied games, it is all shooters and cars.
Didn't you consider some Xabre and Deltachrome in the mix?

Thanks 😀

Xabre and Deltachrome would be nice no doubt. But I never found them for sale, at least not for reasonable price. I was lucky to get at least the Chrome S25 and Parhelia (of the uncommon cards).
