I picked up this combo floppy drive + multi card (SD, MMC, CF..) reader from my local e-recycler for $7.

I always assumed the card reader was broken, because I'd put SD cards in there and it wouldn't work.

I did some digging and found out that it needed a firmware upgrade in order to talk to SDHC cards.

Lo and behold I was able to find the OwlTech website on the wayback machine, and it even had the firmware updating tool available ( https://web.archive.org/web/20111106014844/ht … eader_SDHC1.htm )

Another person was trying to run this utility in Ubuntu with no luck ( https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2316915 ) but I had a Windows XP machine that I used to run the utility.

It worked! And now this SD card reader is functional! I couldn't believe it.

This is all going towards a pretty epic build. I have a P5Q PRO mobo, a Xeon X5460 that is overclocking very nicely, and I'm looking to stack it with a DVD burner, blu-ray drive, 3.5 floppy, and a 5.25 floppy (using greaseweazle). Will likely tri-boot Windows Vista, 7 and 10. Maybe also XP. Currently running a GTS 450 and will add another one for SLI. Basically just throwing everything I can at this build to make it some timeless monstrosity.
