Finally got my PicoGUS v2.0. I had planned to use it only as an MPU-401 in conjunction with an AWE64 and a real GUS Classic. When I just had the real GUS and AWE64 in that computer, I couldn't get the gameport to work as a MIDI output device on the AWE64. As I read, the gameport on the real GUS is only for game controllers, not for MIDI data.
The card installed just fine; I set the IRQ to 3 and the DMA to 3. Connected it to an SC-55 mk2 that passes the MIDI signal through to an MT-32. For some reason, I couldn't get music-related MIDI data to be outputted when I tried DOSMid. The text "PICOGUS" appeared on the display of the MT-32, though. Tried to set the MIDI address to 330, then to 335 (which resulted in a lockup in DOSMid). Made sure the MIDI address on the AWE64 was 310.
Then I tested by removing the real GUS from the system and inserting a Creative Vibra 16. The card worked fine, and MIDI data was sent to the SC-55.
I wonder if there would be any way to keep the configuration of PicoGUS as the MPU-401 card, real GUS, and a Sound Blaster (either AWE64 or Vibra 16)? I could, of course, combine MPU-401 with the GUS emulation of PicoGUS, which would probably be the intended best way. But having a real GUS and PicoGUS as MPU-401 would be ideal for me.
