The later version of the GUS Classic have that ICS Mixer that allow to mix the different sources of the GUS at different level. I always though it was nice to mute those noisy input and have an as clear as possible sound from the wave table that is the only source of audio that sound card generate by itself. Although now I hear experts say that this mixer degrade the sound so much that it's benefit is debatable. I do not remember hearing much of a difference when swapping a GUS with and without that feature, but I did not paid much attention to it anyway. I also think Gravis ULTRAMIX.EXE is not as random as Creative MIXERSET.EXE and seem to retain it's value. But since I use another internal mixer into my retro computers, I think I could simply do without it.
So there is that idea in my head that's been lingering for some time about disabling that mixer and only keeping the GF1 output. I dont care about the $bay value of my card, but I care much about keeping it in operational order. I assume the ICS mixer work with analog signal so it might be after the DAC, but probably before the line level pre-amp. So I'm not sure I can simply hijack the GF1 signal input of the ICS and send it to my computer mixer (which is a small NE5532 board mixer that sit well behind a 5-1/4 flap). If I have to bypass the ICS chip, this would probably mean to cut the line-level pre-amp source, or not use it and install another amplifier. At this point that project start to be questionable...
So before I do anything I will need to figure out if the signal before the mixer will need to be pre-amplified and maybe gather more evidence that this ICS mixer have so much of an impact on the sound. So you got it right, I'm at the consideration step of that project so please be welcome to chip in your thought.
