Apparently its a Yamaha DS1 (YMF-744B).

but its not picking up the card.

Any ideas?

edit:
I was able to install the driver manually, but nothing is coming out of the speakers.
everything in the mixer is set to 100%

at least some progress, I got sound in DOS working with the included realmode driver.
Windows is still an issue.

Hmm, good point. I've just set up a PCG-F807K that needed setting up and the driver that worked was this one:

It's got some Sony specific customisations for audio output.

Those two original 'driver' and 'utility' packs aren't great for Windows 98 it seems, or anything? The Sony Shared Library says it's for Windows 2000. They've got the Jogdial utility where the hotkey utility should be, but the F800 series doesn't have a jogdial. The touchpad and modem drivers won't work with Windows 98 either 🙁

Last year I was putting together a Windows 98 driver and utilities installer for the PCG-SR / Z505 / Z600 series and this works really well for the PCG-F800 series as well, but I never finished it even though it works. It requires stuff that's on the Internet Archive which is down still.

edit: hmm there is one positive to this utilities pack and that is that there's the correct Sony Notebook Setup software for the F800 series in that pack, so that works although it only works alongside some Windows 98 specific software that I got from a PCG-C1XD recovery disk.
