Vogons wiki states that Athlon based CPUs don't work with 3dfx voodoo cards. I found that they do work with 3rd party drivers (fastvoodoo), but did not try using the official ones.

Another big issue is that with such fast CPUs, Voodoo1 cards start displaying artifacts on some games (e.g Turok). Some other games still do work fine (like Unreal). Voodoo 1 is best paired with a CPU thats under 500MHz.

That sounds more like a voodoo2 system.

Voodoo1’s are for making classic pentiums run tomb raider and nfs2se imo.

Unfortunately Duron Spitfire is all I got. I can buy V1 for really cheap from a friend of mine and play some TR, Carma, Blood and Decent2 or at least thats what I was plannig.

At least you will not be cpu bottlenecked.

What if you disable that Duron's L2 cache, lower the FSB to 66, etc... to address the artifacts.

Howerever, that could be too much of a slowdown.

Voodoo Graphics is a hit or miss on fast system. On AMD Duron, miss is very likely.

In my experience Pentium / Pentium MMX / Pentium Pro is 100% chance of proper function. Pentium II very likely too. Pentium III perhaps, Pentium 4 if you are lucky.
On AMD I remember problems when running VG on K6-2 450. Athlon / Duron and later never worked for me.

Still, it won't hurt to try. Just put some fan close to the Voodoo, they tend to run hot, especially on faster systems. And experiment with drivers. From what I remember, the latest windows98 driver is not very good. The older ones might work better.

Voodoo1 is definitely more of a Pentium 2 300 sort of card. That should easily saturate it. Unreal for example needs to be run at 512x384 for it to maintain around 30fps.

But I'm not sure of a Duron 600 would be a problem aside from the potential lack of K8 compatible drives for a Voodoo1. I only know of the Voodoo2 K8 drivers.

My V1 sits in a Pentium MMX 200 system. Forsaken at 640x480 runs fair. Sometimes there's a small stutter.

Yes. Athlon xp. Technically geode 1500,but they're the same chip.

It's alive! Games tested: patched blood, TR, forsaken, sin, q1, and 2! Also I have decent framerate with my beloved heretic 2 on lower resolution. This card is crazy I thought Q2 is the ultimate limit. I haven't tried turok 1 since I don't have it. I did zero tweaking it just works.
