Hello,
I recently purchased an Acer Travelmate 220 laptop from 2002 which came with Windows XP Pro.
Specs here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_TravelMate
It has an 8MB integrated Intel 82830M graphics card. I wanted to play old games in this laptop so I made a search for Windows 98 drivers and found WIN98 compatible drivers for all devices.
I formatted the HDD and made a fresh WIN98 SE install on the machine. I have installed every driver successfully including the graphics one but windows is not willing to initialize it as it says that it is having I/O conflicts with motherboard resources. Intel chipset drivers have been installed successfully as a first step.
I made a search online and it was advised to do a fresh WIN98 install using the switch "SETUP /P I" in order to use APM like capabilities instead of ACPI ones installed by default. I am still having the same issue although the I/O conflict now is not with the motherboard resources but with something else that I cannot see. I tried tampering with the settings by turning off "Use automatic settings" but the I/O ranges are non-editable. There is no other option apart from "Basic Configuration 0000".
I also installed Windows ME on the machine and the driver works fine however Windows ME hangs during restart, so I decided to abandon it.
Please check the attached screenshots for more details. These settings belong to a Windows 98 SE installation installed using "SETUP /P I" switch.
Has anyone experienced this or something similar before?
Any help would be appreciated!
