hello,

i own a fic 486gvt-2 mobo and have a question regarding this board.

the rtc is empty and no bios data will be stored. So i wish to replace the battery.

but i am not sure which is which.

there is a small dallas ds128850 chip and also a small round battery like form structure at the left upper side of the board. there also is a writing that says "battery". (look at the photo).

now which one should i replace (if possible).

can it be that the small round structure is a dummy ? but it is soldered on the board and on the backside of the board are two solderpins for that structure (see photo 2)

thx in advance for your help

best wishes
wolfgang

sorry wrong foto sequence

first foto is the one with the two solderpins

second foto refers to the part with the dallas chip and the round small structure

ps: can't edit posts? why?

The round yellow one is the battery.
Seems a rechargeable lithium cell. Replace it with a battery holder, just put a diode on the positive pin to prevent the battery charge.

hello majinga,

thx for the very fast reply.

very strange! there is no replaceable cell. you have to desolder the whole structure. so i will replace it with a holder for a cr1220 akku because the solderpoints are only 10mm apart. So no cr2032 possible.
as far as i know the diode is only used when you use a batteryholder for AA batteries? is this true or must i also use the diode if i use akku cell?

thx

best wishes

Depends on the space you have around the board, you can even fit a CR2032 holder by making it go outside the edge of the board, the diode ill extend the positive pin to the correct place.

The diode is used when you have to replace a rechargeable battery with a non rechargeable one. Is to block the charge circuit.

thx again for your valuable info. i looked at the board and found out that the round structure is indeed a battery (br1225) which supports the dallas chip with current when the pc is switched off. so it seems i can replace the structure with a fitting battery holder.
