Hi

Is there a separate utility that can be downloaded for the Yamaha YMF715E-S ISA sound card? Where you can adjust the volume sliders etc? One of the first set of drivers I tried added this option in the bottom right task bar. The problem is I foolishly deleted the original download and I can't for the life of me remember where I got that driver from, the version, or the name of it. Every other driver I've tried since doesn't seem to include/add it. One does include a mixer/CD player though, which is to the driver set I currently have installed.

Thanks

OS: Windows 98 SE

GPU: Nvidia 16MB Riva TNT/Geforce 128MB 4 MX 440

There are drivers directly from Yamaha, you can try: https://device.yamaha.com/en/lsi/download/
Sadly, the needed driver (31v2329i.exe) is not available on this site (dead link), but luckily it is available through the web archive:
https://web.archive.org/web/20110920235720/ht … &asset_id=46451

I have currently no system with a YMF715E-S at hand, so I'm unable to test it, but I hope these drivers have the mixer you need.

Cool. Thank you for the link. I'll give it a try and report back. 😀

EDIT: Yeah, it looks like the latest for Win95/98 are the same as I have - 95v2343.exe. If 31v2329i.exe is the one I need, that's for Win 3.1? I have Windows 98 SE. 😀

Maybe the first set of drivers I tried was a DS-XG...? Hmm.

Yeah, sadly the 31v2329i.exe doesn't install correctly. No doubt because it's for Windows 3.1.

Which windows is being used ? Volume control in taskbar is not dependent on driver but is provided by windows itself.

In case of ME :
*go to Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia > Sounds
*In bottom of the tab, make sure "show volume control on the taskbac" is checked

Similar procedure will apply to Win95 and 98 but exact names will differ.

Windows 98 SE. The one I had was a specially designed one separate from the traditional Windows one. It was installed as part of these particular drivers. There was a very similar one that was added after installing drivers for the onboard audio.

Oh, the "Ystation" stuff. This is found in Win3.x install because there is no mixer in there but at least one CD that came with all the noname cards with YMF71x chip on it should have it as separate install too.

Here is the applications folder from one such CD, I have not tried it personally but it may work for you :

Ah, no. Not quite. I do have that Ystation application though. But when I installed it it only added the application mixer thing, which isn't what I'm referring to. Unless there's another application in there that can be installed...? I wish I could find an image to show what I mean. The Creative AudioPCI ES137x driver has an identical mixer, which has this icon:

I have never seen this before, maybe it has been a leftover from some other sound card installation...?

I don’t believe so. Whatever the first set of drivers were I installed, this specialised volume control/mixer was added as part of the installation. And that icon/tool could be loaded up from the bottom right.

In that case you'll have to locate the driver package you used the first time, and maybe you might need all new windows install too... (I wouldn't mind having that driver in my collection either)

I just wish I didn’t delete it from my main PC when I was experimenting with different drivers. 😞😖

I’ll have to see if I can backtrack through my browser history and find it that way. If I do, I’ll let you know.

It turns out I do have a YMF715 chip, but it’s the "YMF715B-S" version, not the "YMF715E-S". I suspect this difference is because my YMF715 is part of the sound chip in my Toshiba 440CDT rather than a dedicated ISA sound card. The two versions shouldn’t differ significantly.

Yesterday, I fixed a corroded trace to the onboard RAM of my 440CDT with help from the user Thermalwrong. So, the laptop is now operational. I installed Windows 95 on it and will look for the necessary drivers. I’ll report back once I find the mixer software.

I also have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300, which features the newer Yamaha YMF744B-R chip. However, I assume this isn't the mixer you’re looking for, is it?

Okay, cool. Let me know what you find. 😀 And no, that’s not it. I presume that card will be a bit more modern too if it’s PCI.

Looking back through my history, I asked about the right drivers for my sound card in my first ever thread, which is on Page 16 of Advice on retro gaming Windows 98 build. From that date in my search history, I did come across this webpage - https://x-drivers.com/catalog/drivers/sound_c … /models/ymf715/ - but unfortunately, they ask for a code and the images are broken. So I can't imagine I got it from there. So the only other thing I can think of is that I installed some drivers from the Windows 98 SE disc. I'll have to try looking on it and see what I can find.

Can’t say I’ve seen anything on the 98 disc that it could be. 😕

Apologies, I haven’t forgotten about you. I’m just stuck with the issue that I can’t install sound drivers on my 440CDT at the moment because the floppy drive is broken. The setup program for the sound card insists on creating a floppy disk, which is then used to install the drivers. Absolutely ridiculous. I can’t even write the data to an HDD partition... it has to be a floppy disk. -.-

Hey, no worries. I've not had much luck in finding those drivers myself. Been busy sorting out other issues related to the BIOS, a new HDD, and the Roland SC-55. ^^;

try the drivers i posted here from my toshiba 300CDT cdrom for a 715F-S,
Re: Advice on retro gaming Windows 98 build

should work for earlier revisions i would have thought, didnt work for DustyShinigami, probably as he has an ISA card, and these drivers are only for onboard, you can install from hdd but you need to go through control panel as theres no installer, you dont need to install from floppy at least, it will still install everything with softsynth and OPL3-SAx config in your control panel.

Now that I’ve reinstalled the onboard sound drivers, this is what that mixer looks like:
