Sorry - to some - perhaps a very basic (noob) question.
I want to add a 287 to a working board (Protek 286 - 12Mhz /no manual available)
but I see no idication as to which direction I need to mount the FPU.

The attachment NEW Board.JPEG is no longer available
The attachment NEW Board 2.JPEG is no longer available
The attachment 20241223_121515.jpg is no longer available

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

The "cut out" on the socket shows which way. Same with those bios sockets. Pin 1 aims toward the ram....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Well thanks ! (also have to thank myself for asking). My (uninformed) mind was already matching up the orientation of the printet "287" labels

This is one reason why I always clearly mark pin1 on my boards and make silkscreen match the actual orientation on the chips themselves. Inserting chips the wrong way often leads to physical damage...
