Last Christmas my local Microcenter had these PXN V9 USB racing wheel kits on sale for $80 + tax, and I couldn't help myself. The wheel is surprisingly nice, complete with clutch pedal and shifter, though it's definitely "entry level" - it has rumble, but not force feedback, so you won't be doing any serious business sim racing on it, but I've had a blast owning it and found it well worth the money, even in Forza Motorsport, though I never got good enough to play it online.

Anyway, it supports both Xinput and Dinput modes, and guess what...well, you read the title, Dinput mode works 100% out of the box on Windows 98SE! It uses completely generic Dinput drivers, and ALL of the controls work - the shifter, the clutch, all the buttons, everything works - well, except for Rumble.

I tried it out with TOCA Race Driver, and it was fantastic; I tried it with Rally Trophy, and the pedals would not work correctly. I haven't tried it with much else yet.

However, I'm never one to leave well enough alone, so I installed the NUSB3.6 drivers on my 98SE machine, and then tried to use the x360c 98 drivers hosted here on Vogons: http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?file … 033&menustate=0

98 refused to install the drivers, saying it didn't match the hardware, so I found the VID+PID from my W10 box (VID_11FF&PID_0511) and find+replaced the Microsoft values in x360c.inf file, but 98 still says it doesn't match the hardware. Does the Vendor string need to match? Does anyone have any good links on writing/modifying 98SE driver INFs? The device seems pretty simple from a USB perspective, presenting a USB hub with either a single Xinput device (which W10 reports uses the standard X360 driver, I think).

Still, even without Xinput or Force Feedback, I'm pretty thrilled that it works as well as it does in 98, and felt I should share the info. It looks like my local Microcenter still has them cheap but they are discontinued at this point, and I'm not sure if the V9 gen2 or the V10/V900 work the same way, though PXN advertises that the V9 gen2 doesnt need drivers at all, and does specifically mention Windows XP in the manual, on top of looking functionally identical to the gen1, so it seems a fairly safe bet.

Does anyone know of any 98/XP era games that support a full clutch + shifter setup?
