Hi,

I am having issues with my P2B not working with PCI graphics card. Tried using ATI Rage XL (my only PCI graphics), but there was no display. However, an AGP card is indeed working fine.
Thinking it might be the PCI slot issue, tried different slots with the same result. Also to be sure tried a PCI audio card, but it was detected within windows.
Anyone with the same issue in P2B or any other similar boards?

Intel 845GEBV2, Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz, Geforce FX5600 256MB, 512MB RAM, 160GB HDD, Sound Blaster Live! SB0100 - Win 98.

Check voltages.

Click top item in sig for schematics that should be helpful.
If you can find the original mentioned, boardviewer will sort you easier than kicad

I built:
Convert old ASUS ASC boardviews to KICAD PCB!
Re: A comprehensive guide to install and play MechWarrior 2 on new versions on Windows.
Dos+Windows 3.11+tcp+vbe_svga auto-install iso template
Script to backup Win9x\ME drivers from a working install

You may be able to configure the BIOS to output to AGP first and then install both the AGP and PCI cards at the same time. If it boots, you may be able to see the card in Windows (or not) which could tell you more about the issue. I've had faulty cards that had either corrupt or no display output, but Windows could still see the card in Everest, etc. Once I even used RDP to get into a box with no VGA output to check on the card.

I have a P2B-B and it worked okay with AGP, PCI, and even ISA VGA cards.

Where did you get the Rage XL ? Some of the newly made ones (from old stock chips), while keyed in a way that will fit a 5V only PCI slot (like in the P2B), will only work in a 3.3V PCI slot unless they are modified with an addition voltage regulator. There is a thread about this somewhere on Vogons.

Interesting. I got mine from eBay last year. So it must be a new stock. The card does work on 2 newer boards I tested (M6VLR and K8m800). Edit : The M6VLR has 5 V PCI slots. It still worked there. That is how I was able to see my bootblock. Now it is getting a little confusing.

This is the thread I was referring to
Chinese Rage XL PCI mods, improved compatibility and looking for a good overclock.

If your card works in another board with 5V only PCI slots, I would not think that lack of 3.3.V is the issue.

It sounds like different things might be getting mixed up here. Normally "5V PCI slot" refers to the signal voltage, not power, but those are separate issues.
No doubt the M6VLR slots use 5V *signaling* (virtually all desktop motherboards do), but that doesn't mean they don't provide 3.3V power. PCI slots have pins for 3.3V, 5V, and 12V power. However, many older boards don't deliver 3.3V power - it didn't become a mandatory feature until a later version of the PCI spec.
Newer cards, even though they work with 5V signaling (and are keyed as such), may require the 3.3V power supply pins to be functional. The modern reproduction/knockoff RageXL cards are an example - they omit the onboard 3.3V regulator that cards from the period would have included, instead drawing directly from the 3.3V supply through the PCI pins. Those pins are not connected on some older boards. Not sure if that applies to the P2B, but it may depend on the revision.
