VOGONS

Hoping someone can assist me with this 😀

I took the x-fi out of the E8600 as I need it for another project. I uninstalled all the creative software I could see, including the DD live pack, and powered off the PC.

I installed a Audigy 4 pro (SB0380). Problems began.

First - can anyone point me to a solid source for the CD? My understanding is the Audigy 4 Pro is more like the Audigy 2ZS and that the regular Audigy 4 drivers will not work. I first took the Audigy 4 ISO from Vogons Drivers, and as I guessed the installer did not find any compatible devices. I found another iso on archive.org so gave that a shot.

The installer ran, sat a black screen for a while, then sort of completed with a few cursory error. There is audio coming out of the Audigy 4 Pro, so a good start. I can see the Audigy 4 Pro listed in device manager, along with the usual batch of other Creative items. I reran the installer with the repair option and the software installed without issue.

However, there are issues.
1. Hard to quantify but there seems to be an awful lot of HD activity now. Perhaps I downloaded more than the drivers - Windows 10 defender indicates no threats detected in the files.
2. I can't play anything as I'm getting random x-fi errors now. Upon launching UT2004 I get an error that the sound device cannot be found, followed by the game launching and getting sound playback.

It's later in the day and my tolerance and problems solving skills are at a low ebb. It seems I haven't fully cleaned up the x-fi install, but not sure how to proceed.

I ended up doing a fresh OS install. I had a WD velociraptor laying around, so decided to use that.
After the install I used the Audigy 4 ISO that I found on archive.org and everything seems to be working. I should probably get this ISO uploaded to the vogons drivers, but it’s not something I’ve done before, not clear if there is a process for verification. If anyone knows the process please let me know.
