So yeah, I got that "reasonably priced" (still $250) G220fb that was recently on ebay. Of course it wasn't packaged properly, with nothing wrapped directly around the display itself. It was set into the box, and bubble wrap placed around the monitor, with as little as one layer of small-bubbles along the corners. Of course the monitor moved around, without any sufficient padding, and a hit to the left destroyed the front bezel, and broke the upper tube mounts at minimum. I have received a refund, but of course no return label, so now I have this damaged part here that would require me to pay more for disposal if I go that far.

I powered it on and the monitor does power on. No-signal message appears bright, so the tube seems like it may be okay and not heavily burned in, at least without further testing. The functional parts may be good to keep in the world if nothing else.

I have gathered all the plastic shards from the shipping box, so I can try to reassemble the outer shell as best I can. The first issue is that the side tabs, which I believe cover two of the front-panel screws, aren't flipping open as I expect they should. Service manual here: https://www.morere.eu/IMG/pdf/viewsonic_g220f … vice_manual.pdf I'm not sure I should post pictures - it's gruesome and heart-breaking to see a nicer 21-inch monitor in this condition!

Has anyone here had one of these apart? Is there a trick to getting access to these? It appears that the rear casing should separate with only 4 screws.

Lastly, I haven't had great luck with using acetone plus ABS (3d printer filament) to repair a cracked 20-inch crt stand in the past, which I slowly layered on over a 2-week long period of time, allowing to cure until hard for each layer. The new material I added ended up cracking after a couple weeks of monitor weight being on it. Any other recommendations on repair and filler material?

Thanks in advance

The side screw clip covers just needed force to get out. I have the crt open and discharged now. Trying to lift the heavy tube out of the shattered front bezel is now the challenge, with the pcb, and not put any weight on the neck board. I will find something tomorrow to set the tube on, to slide it out of the front bezel.

Then it will be plastic repairs and reinforcement. I'm still not sure what I can use other than more ABS and acetone, and hope for the best.

In my experience, PVC glue / PVC cement (the glue used for PVC pipes) works the best on ABS plastics. It contains Acetone, Toluene, and a few other solvents and fillers, if I remember correctly. But overall it just seems to dissolve the ABS plastic to a much deeper level, which then makes for a very solid repair joint afterwards. In fact, I've had a few plastic pieces break in another place, but not again the place I glued it with PVC cement.
The label will tell you that 24-48 hours is the time until full strength is reached... but I find that with ABS plastic, sometimes it takes much longer for the glue to fully cure and dry. Depending on the thickness of (over)applying PVC glue, you could be looking at anywhere from a few days to a full week+ for a full proper cure of the glue.
