What are my sound card options for a PCI slot board running Win 95?

System is a Compaq Presario 2286 (running Compaq desert storm board)

System initially had Win 98 on the old HD, but just installed a IDE flash operating Win 95.

Onboard sound from the mother board listed in the specs above. Listed as: Aureal A3D™ Interactive 360° Positional Sound
and
Yamaha XG 128 Voice Wavetable Sound

Neither have been able to work and I’ve had difficulty finding the right drivers. I’m trying to look up good sound cards, but I am aware that ISA was more the norm for the era.

Would there be any PCI cards that are compatible? What would you recommend?

The onboard sound should be a ISA ESS ES1869F, which is a pretty good card for what it is.
Try using this softpaq https://pub.deadnet.se/ftp.compaq.com/pub/sof … 8500/sp8485.exe (readme at https://pub.deadnet.se/ftp.compaq.com/pub/sof … 8500/sp8485.txt) to see if it works.
