Hi all

Could anyone please recommend me a laptop which:

* Not too hard to find
* 4:3 screen (were any IPS quality?)
(Or one which you can upgrade the LCD)
* Fast enough for a glide wrapper to perform well

Any recommendations welcome thank you 😀

I recommend either P3 or Pentium M laptops. They're a low power design and the fan doesn't blast all the time.

GPU's on most high-end Pentium M laptops should be fast enough for Glide/3dfx games. Many have an ATI FireGL.

Some also have large speakers on the front.

Thinkpad A31p/R50p/T42p/T43p/T60p 15" UXGA (1600x1200) screens were IPS.
Thinkpad T42/T43/R51/T60 SXGA+ (1400x1050) screens were IPS.
Exactly these ones, though. No XGA screen, no 14" screen, no option on R52/R60/R61 was IPS (unless upgraded by user).
One downside is that many of these IPS screens would have lost a lot of brightness, due to mediocre CCFL quality, but some are still in good enough shape to be used indoors.

There is a UXGA IPS LED screen that is much better, and is compatible with these models, after a cable+inverter mod. I wouldn't necessarily start with it. Maybe if you get a very cheap 15" unit with an XGA non-IPS screen.

Core 2 Duo laptops are also fine for XP gaming.
A 15" T60/p with a 4MB Core 2 Duio CPU and ATI Radeon X1400/FireGL V3200 GPU would be my choice for a good 4:3 XP laptop with IPS.

Greetings,I c,these was already mentioned, still I wish to confirm,IBM ThinkPad T42 is great for old gaming,I use to play SimCity 4 DeLuxe in full details on it & I am very satisfied,it also has LED light good for nighttime gaming(mainly, when U need to enter a cheat) & as T42,T43,X40 & maybe others, which I do not have, lacks the Start button,it is great for all games, where U r using Ctrl/Alt,because U cannot accidentally hit the Start button & be kicked out of the game(good for some Win32 games & excellent for almost all DOS games played under Windows XP) & if U wish something more portable, then try IBM ThinkPad X40,if U r traveling a lot, this is best, the smallest & lightest 4:3 laptop,I found...When I will also find a new battery for it,I will probably take it to every trip.It is really a piece of old good Legacy art,but it is probably not IPS.
Best color quality of those,I had/have,I felt on Dell Latitude C610 & C510 & Toshiba Satellite 430CDT,but these r too weak for Your purposes,so I would support the opinion about ThinkPads T42/43 & add X40 for consideration.
