Hello,

I picked up this board a few weeks ago for the cpu and ram but wanted to see if I could get it going. The previous owner removed the varta battery but there is very little corrosion on the board.

I have a post analyzer in. It has an AMI bios and it immediately starts at code 06 and hangs there for about 10 seconds, and then displays code 88 and stops. The display does nothing, sometimes the monitor will flash on and off like its getting a signal a few times, but then nothing.

I have since wired up a coin cell holder with a diode to the external battery header. There was also a trace that was corroded on the RTC chip I repaired and verified it now has continuity. There was also two legs on the chipset that were bent and touching, and I separated those. The board still exhibits the same behavior.

I tried a known good 486dx2 cpu in as well, set the jumpers on the board accordingly, but no change.

I also removed the L2 cache chips and setting jumpers. Still no change.

I can't find a definitive answer as to what codes 06 and 88 mean for AMI. Not sure if anyone has any hints or thoughts?

Looked at the 88 POST code and it probably means that the main chipset didn't initialize properly. If there was a corrosion you probably missed some broken trace, you need to double check that. Often it's very hard to see with naked eye and sometimes even with a magnifying glass. Check the backside too.

Perhaps include a photo of the affected area?
