I have a STB Lightspeed 128 PCI graphics card which has two memory modules soldered and two spaces for modules but nothing soldered.

The card currently has 2MB memory.

Would it work to purchase two more modules and solder them to the board without needing to make any other changes and would there be a worthwhile difference in performance to do that?

My card is the sam as the one on The Retro Web:

If your card have all the SMD caps around the pads, then yes.

You get 1024x768 True color resolution and that's about it. You probably also can resolder MD908 chips with MD909 to get 2.25Mb and achieve the same result, because RAMDAC on ET6000 is very weak.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

Hercules Dynamite 128/Video also supports 1280 x 1024 x 16-bpp.

Thanks for the feedback.
My card has the SMD caps soldered.
I'm not interested in higher resolutions. I think 800x600 is okay for a vintage PC where such a card would be used, but some performance improvement would be nice.

I've ordered the modules and will go ahead and solder them to my card when they arrive. If nothing else, my STB will be unique as it seems that every version I can see available for purchase online is missing the second set of modules.

Yes, I've only seen two variants of STB Lightspeed 128:
- 2 MB
- 2.25 MB

...which may mean the STB BIOS won't even support 4 MB.
If that happens to be the case, hopefully you can replace it with the BIOS from Hercules, or some other 4 MB card.
